D-Mannose BRAND recommendation?

For those of you who use D-Mannose for bladder health, do you have a particular brand you like and could recommend? Anything I should look for to be included with the D-Mannose...or even not be included in it? I very much appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!!!

Re: D-Mannose BRAND recommendation?

My fave is NOW Foods 500 mg. capsules.

No other main ingredient, which is important to me.

I take 3 everyday, in the morning with breakfast.

I like this brand for other supplements, too.

Diabetics use with caution

Does D mannose raise blood sugar?

  • Structurally, D-mannose is similar to glucose, but it’s absorbed at a slower rate in the gastrointestinal tract. It has a lower glycemic index than glucose, as after it’s consumed it needs to be converted into fructose and then glucose, thereby reducing the insulin response and impact on your blood sugar levels.

Dmannose

I purchased this one from Amazon based on reviews and ingredients.  I have NOT started taking it yet as I just got over a very bad UTI infection and didn't want to add anything new in yet until all symptoms are gone and my culture comes back negative next week.

I'm considering D Mannose, too.

Any thoughts on taking this vs taking a simple dried cranberry supplement?

I think Lessman has jumped on this bandwagon and his has both?

@tsavorite, just curious how you're doing and if you've started D-Mannose or anything else. We're in the same boat as I'm trying to get over a very painful UTI that took well over two months to even get diagnosed! I took Macrobid for one week and have now been off of it for almost a week. I'm definitely better but still not quite right. I've seen my PCP and then a gynecologist over the last two months with the gyn ultimately treating me for the UTI. I'm seeing a urologist but can't get in till May 26th. I've been looking at the D-Mannose but also seriously thinking of ordering the Theracran One Cranberry supplement from Amazon. Wondering how you have progressed and what supplements or other things you are using for prevention, etc. Thanks for any help. Hope you are feeling better!

Re: D-Mannose BRAND recommendation?

@pupwhipped Hello!  I have been struggling along slowly.  I had a UTI back in March and went thur 4 different antibiotics to finally be rid of it.  My Urine culture came back a few days ago for the 1st time as normal.

But with that said I am not "normal" feeling in that area.  I did see a urologist in the meantime as while on the 4th antibiotic (Cipro) I was having urgency and burning still...only had one day left at that time and was feeling very scared.  They did a dip stick test in office and it was negative but the culture is the real for sure test.  My PCP did that for me this past Tuesday to be sure even though I have mild urethra burning still.

I have never experienced something like this before and it turned my life upside down.  Very uncomfortable to say the least.

The Urologist put me on a topical estrogen cream....told me what I was experiencing can be caused from meno also.  Once I stopped the antibiotics things got abit better but again not back to normal.

I think this infection may have triggered a more deeper reaction....destroyed the inner lining of the urethra.  I have since removed several things from my diets (coffee only drank one per day) and only drink water.  I did start drinking one cup of Marshmallow Root Tea....supposed to help with this.  Many with IC use it and I think these symptoms I have may be that....I hope not but most say they feel like they still have a UTI if they have it.

I did not start taking the supplement I purchased....as it does have cranberry and while that's fine for typical UTI it is not something those with IC take as it can be acidic.

I did alot of reading about the estrogen cream and all the benefits for the bladder and preventing UTI's as I get older.  It keeps the PH balance correct which makes infections like this less likely and many many other great benefits for the bladder.  I plan on staying on this forever.

Sorry this got long....it might be TMI for you LOL!  I am better today then yesterday but I really watch my diet closely and only drink water & the marshmallow tea for now.  I plan on doing only this and perhaps trying the aloe vera supplements many take for this condition.

Hope you are doing better and thanks for asking!

@tsavorite, thanks so very much for your reply. I think it does help to share about these things and, as they say, "misery loves company." HA! My situation sounds similar to yours in a lot of ways. I've always had what I called overactive bladder but then I also drink all the wrong things and have a hard time giving them up. I'm bad. But back in Feb. I just had lots of internal burning...couldn't even tell if it was female issues or my bladder as I didn't really have burning when going to the bathroom. It just burned inside constantly and I had to urinate often and never felt much relief after voiding. My original urine culture at the end of Feb. at my PCP's office showed 5000-10,000 bacteria and that supposedly is not considered clinically significant. At my request, I started vaginal estrogen cream back then hoping it would help. Was on it five weeks and things just weren't better. I then had incredible luck and got into see a gynecologist. You have to wait forever for appointments with specialists these days! Urine culture there showed 10,000 to 50,000 of enterococcus faecalis bacteria so I was started on Microban. It has definitely helped but I'm still not normal either. I will likely ask for another urine culture to see where we are now eight days after finishing the antibiotic. Oh, and I was told to continue with the estrogen by the gyn. Looking forward to and dreading seeing the urologist on May 26th. I'm afraid my problem may well be IC, too. Question, did your urologist do a bladder scope at your appointment? I think mine will as when I saw him seven years ago for frequent urination he did so. Oh boy...can't wait!

Now, as you can see, I am the Queen of overshare and TMI. Ha! But I do think it helps us all to not feel so alone with our health issues. And we can learn a lot, too, from each other. Thanks and hoping our bladder woes will soon be in the rear view mirror!

@pupwhipped Oh boy we do have alot in common LOL!  My 1st visit with the urologist was a "squeeze" me in between appt.  She ordered a ultrasound and to schedule a scope which they said is done in office.  I have never been up for that one....and according to the American Association of Urology they do not need to do this scope to diagnosis IC.  Since I am so uncomfortable right there...I just can't imagine having it done.  I will most likely do the ultrasound and IF there is something found on that perhaps I will do the other.  Doubtful even then.  I am TERRIFIED of that and it carries risks like infection...frequency....burning pain afterward.  I am trying to heal up the inner lining of that area using what I found out online instead.  I am seeing improvements but I suspect it will take a few months.  I plan on staying on this strict diet and of course no coffee even the low acid kind.  It's not worth it and I just want things to feel like they did prior to this infection.

Looked mine up it is called Escherichia coli &Enterococcus faecalis.....10,000 - 100,000....urologist just said I had a severe infection.  2 different bacteria....never had anything like that before.  I swear it has really torn me up plus all the antibiotics I took and I stupidly drank my 1 cup of coffee during it all not realizing I probably was making the lining inside even more inflamed.

I too have had the OAB symptoms and I get up 2 or 3 times per night to go also.  Long ago I was taking some meds for another health reason and they can make matters worse so I stopped those and stopped drinking any pop.  That helped but never truly works for at night.  I am hopeful that over time the estrogen cream or perhaps the Estring which can be worn for 3 months would be a better fix for this and everything else from what I am reading.  I plan on bringing it up with my gyno next time I am in or sooner.

It is nice to share more details with someone else going thur something so similar....now I don't feel bad about my 1st post back scaring you off LOLWoman LOL  I am a over share kind of person thinking it might help some how like posts on forums about IC have helped me understand possibly what's going on.  It is good for the soul.

I want this to be in the "rear view mirror" for us big time....praying for both of us.
