You are also out of luck for weight medications unless it's related to a serious disease, fertility drugs, cosmetics, prescription vitamins excent prenatal and fluroides, and ED drugs.
Bascially no colds, no babies, nothing to make babies, nothing to make yourself look good so you would be in the mood to make babies and no vitamins.
Somewhere, in someone's spreadsheet, this makes sense.
Would someone on Medicare need fertility drugs??
@2blonde I was going to type that but I didn't want to judge!
@Laura14@. @2blonde: someone could be on Medicare due in case of disability and be young enough to use fertility drugs.

True, there are disabled people of all ages on Medicare and some would need fertility treatment. But does Medicare covere rx drugs? I thought they didn't, I thought you needed separate rx drug coverage.

@SeaMaiden I did not know that! Thank you! For some reason, I was assuming if you were younger it is Medicaid.

@chrystaltree You're right. You would have to be under Medicare Part D which is optional prescription drug coverage benefits.

No surprise to me that Medicare does not cover "cough medicine". So many things causes one to cough I have no idea how many GP's would know what would work. Many that are Specialists in those fields have different views of what might help give relief for a regular cough.
I seldom cough unless I have symptoms from a specific problem. Sore throat, I use hot salt water swishes and they do help, just do them many times a day. Never found any OTC or prescription med that did more for me. Tickle in the throat? Same treatment, coughing up phlegm? More than just a regular cough. More than a few days, I see my PCP and have him check it out.
Personally see a cough, without specificity(like my Aspiration Pneumonia), just as I do a cold. Doctors and the old: "take aspirin and drink lots of fluid and it will take about a week. Go about your daily routine and it will take only 7 days".
Sounds about right to me. Hope your DH gets rid of his cough, and has no serious underlying issues.

@Isobel Archer wrote:Are the prescription cough medicines prohibitively expensive?
No the guaifenesin/codeine syrup is not expensive at all.
I for got to use a coupon (GoodRx). but still it was not prohibitive.
Since codeine is a scheduled rx, I hesitate to ask for it b/c I’m afraid they will think I am a druggie.

Our insurance plan also does not cover cough medicine. So I pay 25 dollars for the bottle. The OTC medicine doesn't stop cough especially at night!

Why should cosmetics be covered by any insurance?

@Laura14 THAT may be the case....so I guess We need to do more investigation to really know. 😌

I am confused. I did not know MEDICARE paid for any meds-Rx or not. Do you mean Medicaid?
