I've had many colonoscopies and with some I had very light sedation and the procedure was very painful.  The last time I had propofol, and it was so wonderful I asked for an order to go.  I was completely out and unaware but woke up fully cognizant and ready to go.  I think that's mostly what the use nowdays.  There were no side effects at all.

You are given, I was, the "Michael Jackson" drug, Propofol. Google for details.

Yes, it’s like a conscious sedation. They could have left some of that in, hahaha.

Much improved, easy peasy (except for the prep but that’s also improved).

Nonetheless, good luck!!

Just had one last June and the practice we go to uses Propofol.  Very fast acting and you awaken quickly with little to no side effects.  Didn't feel or remember a thing.  They give you a juice box once you're fully awake and send you on your way.   It's normal to be nervous but it's a relatively easy test and it's a great feeling once it's over and everything is good!

Just out of curiosity why would anyone like Michael Jackson want to do this? I have had it twice and it works for a medical procedure but cannot see any plus side to it otherwise. Anybody know? Thanks

Just had my colonoscopy last month, and was out for 20-30 minutes with Propofol in my IV.   I was discharged within 30 minutes after the procedure, after my doctor talked to me.

This was colonoscopy #4 for me in 10 years, and the procedure has gotten easier each time.   Can’t understand the fear, and why people avoid this test.

@RedTop   It is not fear of the colonoscopy it is hating the prep. That is why people hate this test.

Call the Drs office and ask for details.

I've had two done at the hospital.  They just referred to it as twilight.  Sounds the same as most had.  Wheeled into the room and introduced to everyone, then woke up in recovery.  Didn't remember anything.  Had to stay in recovery about a half hour, then left.
