I'm so sorry trinity11...I'm glad you went ahead and had your colonoscopy and hope it was ok. It sounds like the only test that is 100% accurate is the colonoscopy which I am definitely going to get done I'm thinking probably in June. Thank you for sharing your story.
Thank you. She was a real sweetheart and I miss her. That's why I believe in preventative medicine. It truly saves lives...

A friend of ours died as the result of a colonoscopy. He had one before and no problems.
Any procedure has its risks. That doesn't mean one should not have a procedure done.

Thank you sfnative...my two surgical procedures were due to endometriosis and I know my gynecologist said it was back on my bowel and she didn't want to remove it because of damaging my bowel but my doctor who did my total hysterectomy said he removed all the endometriosis when he did my surgery. Wasn't sure if adhesions from multiple surgeries made a difference when doing a colonoscopy?
Regarding the last sentence, your concern is very understandable. Adhestions are basically scar tissue. This type of tissue is not very elastic. If it were me and I had the concerns that you did, I wouldn't hesitate to mention this to the physician performing the procedure. Specifically, mention that the endometriosis was removed from the large bowel, but that you are worried that due to multiple surgeries, adhesions may make it more difficult to perform the colonoscopy.
Clinically there may be no concern at all. However, your physician needs to hear your concern, as this can create a level of anxiety in the patient that requires attention.
It may be a good idea to write down any questions you have, so you don't have to worry about forgetting them on the day of your procedure.
All the best.

Docs say 50 is the time to start screening, if no histouy you could probably wait a few more years, up to you. But I do suggest the gold standard colonoscopy, not any of the alternatives, just not in the same league.

@NickNack Bravo Ms NickNack! Your potential false positive may have been a blessing in disguise but you did it, you took the more important part of this, the real test.
Congrats on your clean checkup. Be thankful you had it done, be happy for your results.

@PINKdogWOOD Yes, I was very thankful for the results, and I will definitely do it again in another ten years.

My doctor was never insistent about my having a colonoscopy, so I've never had one and don't plan to unless the occult test indicates a problem.
And if I were to have one, given what I've read in the medical literature, I would do serious research before selecting my doctor because..something no one here mentions...all colonoscopies are not the same. Your colonoscopy is only as good as the person who's doing the examination. If that person does a slap-dash job and misses things, you haven't gotten the purported benefit of the examination. IMO, it's worth taking the time to find the best person available for the job.
I've also read that something called split prep can make the whole prep process easier and give a cleaner colon (which improves the quality of the examination, all things being equal), but that's also something that should be researched.
Good luck.
