I have had two traditional colonoscopies and chose to have a cologuard for the last one I will probably ever have ( I was 75). I had to redo it but still was glad to do it that way as I have never had a ployab and have no family history.

Why not? I think everyone here who takes this seriously would like to know why it wouldn't have detected your colon cancer. Why did your oncologist think that?
The Oncologist told me that Cologaurd and Blood test just do not detect them! She did not explain why, just said they didn't show up!
I would believe it is because they do not put detectors inside the colon??
There was a small bulge in the colon wall.
Having Diverticulosis probably saved my life!

@NickNack My doctor specifically advised me against the Cologuard test because she said there are simply too many "false positives" and wanted me to avoid possibly having to go through the colonoscopy process for nothing.
Had 2 colonoscopies. Clean.
I appreciated her thoughtfulness and took her advice.

@deepwaterdotter wrote:@hckynutjohn I will also stick with a colonoscopy as long as my insurance covers the cost.
@deepwaterdotter , my DH's insurance doesn't pay for a colonoscopy and I still stuck with it. I'd rather be out that money than what I could potentially be out if I decide to skip it.

@Tinkrbl44 Cologuard works by detecting blood in your stool. Not all colon cancer or polyps will cause that blood. Maybe because her cancer was in the colon wall, there was no blood.
As an aside, I had to have my first colonoscopy about 2 years ago. My doctor would not get behind Colorguard for my first one. She told me if I come back clear, we'll talk about Cologuard in 10 years and maybe by then they will have improved. She said right now they aren't reliable enough.

After my last colonoscopy the gastroenterologist told me not to have another preventative one done as it was "technically challenging".
I think there's another test now...not sure.

Colonguard said they received it outside he window so they couldn't process it. They sent a second kit, this time I took it to UPS, that one was received within the window and processed.
@labloverrr Good to know. I still don't want to have to run over to a UPS store. I greatly prefer home pick up.
You don't have to go to a UPS store. You can take it to the counter at a Staples store and they will scan it and give you a tracking receipt. It will leave same day, already in the UPS system and successfully reach the lab on time. The problem with home pickup is it doesn't get into the UPS system fast enough. It goes to a depot to get processed. You lose a day.
You can have your preference for home pickup. It's proven unsuccessful. You repeat the same effort and then resent the results! Change the method. It's your healthcare. Make the effort to get it to UPS faster. Don't arrange for home pickup.
I've done this test every 5 years like you. When I bring it in to expedite transport and start its way to the lab, it gets there on time.
Hope your test results come out negative and give you peace of mind for another 5 years.

@shaggygirl wrote:You said UPS picks it up. I assume you mean at your residence. I don't know if it would matter but when mine was ready to send back I drove over to UPS and dropped it off. If you have one close by maybe that would make a difference.
Ups picked it up within a couple of hours, I work so I would have to wait until late afternoon to find a Ups place and drop.

I received the replacement kit but this time I'm going to wait until January, after the Christmas rush to use the kit and return it.

A colonoscopy will find polyps that a mail-in test can't see, and thr doctor can remove them immediately and send for biopsy.
