Last colonoscopy my doc found a lipoma, totally benign, but he removed it anyway. Wonder if Cologuard would have found that, probably not.

Need to chime in here!  My colon cancer was not a polyp or a growth...it was inside the colon wall and could never have been detected by either the Cologaurd or blood test per my oncologist!

@Zhills

Why not?   I think everyone here who takes

this seriously would like to know why it wouldn't have detected your colon cancer.   Why did your oncologist think that?

@Tinkrbl44 Cologuard works by detecting blood in your stool.  Not all colon

cancer or polyps will cause that blood.  Maybe because her cancer was in the colon wall, there was no blood.

As an aside, I had to have my first colonoscopy about 2 years ago.  My doctor would not get behind Colorguard for my first one.  She told me if I come back clear, we'll talk about Cologuard in 10 years and maybe by then they will have improved.  She said right now they aren't reliable enough.

@Lipstickdiva Blood in the stool is only one of two things that Cologard detects.

According to Cologard's website:

"Cologuard tests for colon cancer by identifying atypical DNA and traces of blood in the stool that precancerous polyps and colon cancer can cause.

  • Every day, your colon sheds cells that line the inside of the colon. As part of this process, altered cells will shed into the colon along with normal cells
  • When you have a bowel movement, cells are collected by stool as it passes through your colon
  • Cologuard uses advanced stool DNA technology to detect the DNA and blood cells released from altered cells, and can detect both precancer and cancer, if present
  • Unlike other noninvasive colorectal cancer screening tests, Cologuard can detect both precancer and cancer"

@Mindy D

Beats me why this discussion about Cologuard is still showing someone's data. It's factual that if you choose that method and get a reading that is not satisfactory, then what?

People that believe their body is their castle, end up getting a Colonoscopy anyway. So, instead of getting the Gold Standard first, it becomes secondary.

Why so many people think a Colonoscopy is like brain surgery escapes me. So you drink some stuff that is not a typical refreshment drink/go put on a hospital gown, and now with many Gastro Doctors using Propofol. You get a nap, maybe a snack and out you go.

Too many believe the horror stories others like to tell. I am here to tell you that is a bunch of bs. Sure, invasive procedures of any kind carry a risk. But each time you get in a vehicle to hit the road? List those stats in relation to % of deaths by Colonoscopy procedures.

Very few Cancers are preventable, Colon Cancer happens to be 1 of them. And some want to consider that procedure "a hassle"? I have spent many years/hundreds of visits to the Cancer Center in my hospital, as that is where my Hematologists practice. Have seen many, many there for Cancer treatments, and I have heard "if only", more times than I care to remember.

Enough with the stats about this test. Anyone that is serious about this topic and their overall health is aware of this. The Colonoscopy is their best choice of finding the condition of their Colon.

I just had my first colonoscopy on Nov. 5th and friend told me just after that his cologaurd had been lost on its return back.  He did not know how but he was going to have to do it again.  I way over prepared for my prep., not bad at all.  I did it my way and started it when I wanted to finish when I wanted so I could sleep better before the dark thirty start time of the procedure.  4 polyps removed and have to go back in three years not ten.

I first was prescibed Cologuard a few years ago and finally threw it away just last week.  It expired back in August 2020.  I just could not bring myself to use it since I was afraid the results would be deceiving.
