My sister has just been diagnosed with colitis, and has been in the hospital for several days. She also has severe IBS problems and Parkinson's, so she has had a very hard time. Just asking what we can expect from this new diagnosis, thanks in advance!

@HootyI'm so sorry for your sister and you. She certainly is facing major challenges.
A good friend of mine suffered with colitis for years before she finally resorted to surgery; after some recovery time, she was able to resume a full life. I don't remember the exact time, but she was young and did not have the added burden of Parkinson's so I doubt that experience tells us much of what's ahead for your sister.
I do hope she is receiving good, appropriate care; I just can't even imagine what that is with her stack of issues. My prayers for you both.

@sweetee2@millieshops, thank you both for your sweet thoughts, she is still in the hospital, but I am looking for someone to help her, and hopefully the Dr. will prescribe Home Health Care to come in to help her a couple of days. She cannot be operated on, and yes, she has lots of challenges ahead for her.

Please make sure your sister was also tested for the Alpha Gal enzyme/allergen. My dh was seriously ill for 2 years with symptoms much like food poisoning from time to time, and it turned out to be that a Lone Star Tick bite infected him with a red meat allergen called, "Alpha Gal." Not many doctors know about this--it took 2 long years of suffering for my dh to finally get answers & help. So, it is worth a shot. BTW, he was previously "diagnoseed' with IBS. It turned out to be an alpha gal allergy.
Good luck!

I suffered fro a mild case for years. I never knew how serious it could be until my dil best friend has had to be hospitalized many times with this! Poor girl is stunning, highly educated, single and only 26! She has trouble holding a relationship as she never is sure when she will feel ill! She has needed blood transfusions several times! I hope the doctors give her complete instructions and a means for follow up care! You both have my prayers!

I have ulcerative colitis. Apparently there are different types. Mine is genetic. I have 3 siblings with the same thing. Ours goes along with arthritis.....all part of the gene mutation. After spending October of 2014 mostly in bed trying to get some energy and have the symptoms stop, a horrible arthritis in my hips developed. During the month my immune system went south and I ended up very sick with a respiratory virus as well. I was just miserable and looked terrible. When I started feeling better the arthritis really kicked in. I spent the next year trying to figure out what was wrong -- my back or my hips? I had my right hip replaced in December 2015 and my left hip replaced in May 2016 and I'm still recuperating from the left one. I take Asacol 800 HD for the ulcerative colitis and it has been a Godsend for me. I had one small flare since the initial diagnosis, but now I'm doing well. The trick is to have a good doctor, good meds and take them religiously. I wish your sister well.
