@goldensrbest  One of my "pre clues" that I am going to get a cold sore is I get an ear ache.  Never had the dreams.  I have an open prescription for Acyclovir that I can take when I feel one coming on.  Lysine never helped me much.  Stress and sun bring mine out.

It is a virus so that may be why you don't feel well.  Hope you feel better soon.

I can't wear anything on the lips, nor could my sister.  She had to get a strong pres. to get rid of hers.  My best remedy was to do nothing with them.  Nothing else came with that, but we're all different, so, keep track in case it's something else.

The first moment when I feel the cold sore coming on (itchy and redness by the lips), I rub aloe vera gel on that area for 5 minutes and then repeat throughout the day, then I don't develop a cold sore. But if it is too late, then the cold sore develops, then I do feel run down and unwell.

Re: Col sore question

[ Edited ]

I've never experienced having bad dreams from a cold sore outbreak. What makes mine break out is eating too much of (amino acid) arginine-rich foods especially stuff with seeds or nuts. I take lysine to balance the ratio of arginine/lysine in my diet and that helps. You can read about arginine/lysine ratios in reference to cold sores...just google it.

ETA - I use a DMSO cream (70% concentration) on cold sores. That cream comes in a jar with an orange label (gold lettering on it). DMSO is a substance which penetrates the skin very easily. It stops the virus from replicating in the skin, beneath the surface where the active virus lives. DMSO is considered to be alternative or homeopathic medicine used for multipurposes.

If I get a cold sore I have found that when I apply castor oil, it does help. I have organic castor oil.

Abreva works. I suggest always keeping Abreva on hand. That's what I do.

@Goldengate8361

I also swear by Abreva and try to keep it on hand.

My first indication of getting one is a tingling sensation in a particular spot on my lip and I can feel a slight bump in that spot.

I start applying Abreva at that point and it never even turns into a full blown cold sore.
