I just read that it is not avilable for sale in the US any long

It appears to be available under various product names. It's an antihistamine, so is prescribed for allergies, but also for hay fever and cold symptoms.

I have the OTC from Walgreens.  I use it for allergies PRN.  It works!

 

I also give it to my Doxie when he is sneezing.  I use the 25mg 4 hour dose.

Used to take it.  Brand name Coricidin.  Worked but made me sleepy.

 

Take Zyrtec non-drowsy, now.
