@QueenDanceALot

You have such a knowledge of physiology, perhaps you have something more specific than what I already know, which is to strengthen the core and/or stomach area.

My issue is that often when I'm standing at the kitchen counter, cooking or cleaning, etc., I develop a soreness directly in the middle of my back for which I've read that one ought to strengthen the front.  Quite logical, and I'm working on it.

I was wondering if you had anything you'd recommend.

@GingerPeach

Hello 😊

Have you tried Pilates?

Thanks for the idea, @butterfly123

I have done Pilates in the past.

Now, due to inability to get up from floor positions, I stick to things I can do upright, like tai chi or chi gong.

I did have a Pilates bench for a while but ended up selling it.  It got harder to get up from that low height as well.

What were her exact symptoms, @sweetee2

Did they go away if she stretched?  Did they go away if she stopped working at the kitchen counter?  Did she feel it internally or just on the surface, in the muscles?

Thanks, @cherry

I need to strengthen my core muscles anyway, and don't want to spend money for something I could do on my own.

Glad it helps your husband.  I know it works for a lot of people.

Hi @GingerPeach

Without a more complete evaluation, I could not give you specific advice regarding the reason for your back discomfort and what, specifically, you should do to help that.

I don't believe there is any general recommendation that if you have back discomfort (of any kind) that you should "strengthen the front".

I would have to see your movement patterns and posture to give any type of advice.

That said, barring any contraindications for particular exercises, I think Pilates is an excellent choice for overall core strengthening.  BUT you must have the assistance of a qualified Pilates instructor to guide you.  Just as in yoga (or in any type of training, really), you need someone who can view your mechanics through all planes of motion, something you cannot see yourself.
