@Hoovermom I had cataracts removed and trifocal lenses implanted in my eyes 10 years ago and have enjoyed 20/20 vision with no glasses since that time.

I had each eye done 3 weeks apart (had astigmatism) and each surgery took 7 minutes to complete. (Of course there were several pre-op visits to take precise measurements prior to surgery).

I go for annual checkups every year and am THRILLED at the enhanced quality of life these implants have given me.

My surgeon was absolutely the BEST and I do thank him profusely every year for the excellent job he did restoring my eyesight to its present level!

Many insurances only cover monofocal lenses. It can cost several thousand dollars out of pocket per eye for multifocal and other premium lenses.

@Hoovermom You'll do great. I had mine done this past summer & was a little nervous beforehand. I don't have an astigmatism so I went for the regular lens. After decades of wearing glasses, I don't need them anymore except for very tiny print. The couple things I wasn't expecting were increased sensitivity to light and exacerbation of dry eyes. I never needed sunglasses before, now I do. Not a big deal but definitely different for me. Also, although my doctor always mentioned that I had dry eyes, it never affected me like now. I use Refresh drops regularly now. Just saw him for a follow up Tuesday & he mentioned with the dryness of heating and winter, to expect the dryness to continue for a bit. If I had to do it again, I would. The surgery was like a light show, very psychedelic, LOL.

My vision was 20/800 before surgery plus astigmatism and now its 20/20 and I have no need for glasses what so ever. I told my doctors I wanted the best vision I could get. Expensive yes but so worth it. The surgery is a piece of cake. No pain.

@gillsburg : It is going to cost $700 for each eye for me to have the lens implanted.

Yes no drops.... Dropless Cataract Surgery......So glad I didn't have to deal with those drops.......

Surgeries are always scary...... but everyone I know has not had any problems with cataract surgery and they always see better when it's done.

Had both eyes done several years ago. First surgery I paid $1700 out of pocket to have a Multi-focal "iol" put in by Left Eye. Had worn trifocals for many, many years prior to this surgery.

Had a Mono-focal lens put in my Right Eye. Fully paid for by Medicare.

Immediately after my 1st surgery "Left Eye Multi-focal (iol)", I could read the print in the newspaper I was reading in the waiting room, prior to surgery, and had to wear my trifocals. After, I could now read the same page without my glasses.

Simple painless surgery. Most annoying part was back then, I had to put 4 different drops in each eye, 4 times every day. Think it was for a month, maybe less.

I have not worn my glasses since, and in my math, I have already recouped the $1700 I paid for the Multi-focal "iol". Was needing new lenses in my trifocals every year, and those costs were not cheap.

This surgery to me was just another day, certainly nothing to be concerned about. You will do fine!

@sann No drops, that's great. Seems like I was putting a ton of drops in my eyes before and after.

If you get time to read about please do..... I had it 3 years ago......when the Surgeon told me about it I was so glad because that was the part I dreaded.....
