@Grouchomarx My new doctor told me that I had to get off Nexium, which I have found difficult because I cannot even eat a salad without experiencing heartburn. Like @Kachina624, my doctor put me on Rantidine twice a day. The doctor told me that you have to slowly wean yourself off of Nexium, so I took it for another week and then switched to the new med.
Rantidine is not as effective, imo, and I am still trying to get the timing right. I take it about 30 minutes before breakfast and 30 minutes before dinner. As for lunch or a snack, I find that I really have to be careful of what I eat and the amount.
See your doctor before completely taking yourself off of Nexium. There are days when I think that I will just go back to it, but I am giving this a try. It does seem to be getting better.

For anyone whose doctor tells you that you must get off Nexium (or a similar drug) I strongly suggest you see a gastroenterologist first. My gastroenterologist told me not to get off of it. As I said in a previous post, reflux can cause Barrett's Esophagus, which is cancer.
If you can get off it and not have reflux that's great. If you still have reflux you need to stay on it.

I also recommend watching a video on youtube by Dr Ken Berry - 'How to FIX Heartburn/GERD Naturally (and cheaply...)'
And if you have time, read the comments under the video
@Kachina624 I recommend watching this video if you get a chance
I hate watching videos... so in a nutshell.... how do you fix it naturally and cheaply?

@SeaMaiden do what works for you. I am happy for the people who have had success, but, that isn't everyone. No two people are the same and what works for some won't for others. Start with your Dr

Hi @NickNack
Just want to clarify the above statement. I was diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus many years ago and have had numerous Endoscopic Procedure ever since. Right now it is every 2 years, just had one a couple weeks ago.
Barrett's Esophagus is not cancer, it is a Pre-Cancerous Condition. Having it monitored and treated with the right medication(for me that is Nexium) can keep it from developing into Esophageal Cancer.
I do not have Cancer, but I do have Barrett's Esophagus. Fortunately Nexium has kept it in it's current state.
Have a great weekend

@SeaMaiden I'm sorry to hear you don't enjoy watching videos. Unfortunately, since so many great points are brought up most folks don't know about, if I even got started explaining, my post would be too long even for me. All the points are connected to each other. If I bring up one, then you will want to know why. If I bring up 2, you will want to know why, etc. IF I or anyone just tells you what to take, it won't make any sense.
You have to take acid to help digestion, not remove it with OTC meds. It's counter-intuitive to what you think you need to do in order to help your body work better. If a person just wants to take pills, without understanding why it won't help much without understanding why.
This Dr explains quite a lot in a 15 minute video.
Maybe you can have a relative watch it and explain it to you.
It is sad there are so many Dr's that push pills rather than helping get their patients off of them or help with preventative options. DH and I are thankful we have the latter.
At the same time, there are patients who have a Dr who does really look out for them and their best interest...their health, but just won't/refuse to change their diet/lifestyle. For example, I know diabetics who would rather take more insullin shots daily than stop eating their fave foods.
I recommend the book - Lies my Doctor told me by Ken D. Berry MD
Lastly, I don't expect anyone to actually change their lifestyle because of anything I said. However, I do everything I can to help and share info. It's nice when folks have an open mind enough to learn something new, if not change. I am not an evil witch Dr...LOL
Oh well...
There is an old saying I was brought up with...'you can lead a horse to water...'

Thanks @hckynut . I thought it was cancer. I'm sure I realized when he told me that it wasn't, but that was many years ago.
