First, I'm so sorry you're facing this.

Second, you're contradicting yourself. In one paragraph you say you "want whatever you can get to keep it from getting bad" but the very next sentence is that you "don't need advice". Your family may be confused about what you really want. To explain, I know someone who's been diagnosed with early onset dimentia (not a genetic cause) and I know 3 easy things that will drastically help and relayed that info and can only hope my advice to keep it from getting worse is being followed.

{Hugs}

Maybe it's wrong to feel like I don't want advice from family yet

I know it's only natural for people share whatever they think will help or things they've heard. I've done it. Everyone has done it. Knowing me, I just need more emotional support right now. The rest will come soon.

Part of my stress is because doctors said I can't take the medication they wanted to start me on because of the high risk of kidney damage -- I lost half a kidney due to disease a long time ago. But there are other options so I want to pursue those.

Doctors gave me a list of foods and activities that help. I'm doing all of them and have been since my first test a year ago.

No, it's not wrong to not want advice until you're ready for it. I do hope that you'll make it clear to people when you are open to it though. You never know what others have to offer that might be just what you need.

I hope on your list is a boron supplement and warm lemon herbal tea with honey every day (lemon has 92 health promoting properties). If it were me, I'd also be doing heavy metal detox (there are easy ones that aren't expensive) as well as getting plenty of healthy fat in my diet (the brain needs it for proper function and certain meds deplete it).*

All the best to you!

@CalminHeart

My heart goes out to you with this life changing diagnosis, and along with other friends here, you will be in my daily prayers.

Having walked thru 13 years of vascular dementia with my mother, it is crucial for your family and friends to be aware of your diagnosis and prepare themselves to be your support system.

As a daughter, I truly felt I was more in tune with Moms mental changes than my brothers.  Even then, there were many shocking events and unpleasant surprises I was not prepared for.  My brothers, and their wives, were wonderful as caregivers to Mom from the get go.  We worked together well and did what needed to be done until she passed.  However, had I been an only child, I would have placed Mom in a care facility at least 6 months earlier, due to what I was seeing.  It took a very significant event for one brother to realize our mother needed eyes on her 24/7, and thankfully I was able to get her placed within 3 days.  Mom truly was in the last stage of dementia; the owner of the care home was amazed we had been able to keep our mother at home that long.  Mom was under her care for 4 months.

Please know I wish you the very best possible outcome from this diagnosis.

@CalminHeart - it's great! I took a screen shot of your post for what I would want to do or say in that situation.

@CalminHeart   I'm so sorry to hear of your diagnosis.  You have had so much loss in a few years, and I will continue to pray for you.  What you have written is excellent to share with family and friends.

I have not dealt with family dementia or Alzheimer's, but I know it's hard on so many patients and caregivers.  I know you will continue to exercise, and I know you enjoy your dog and yardwork.  New medicines and treatments continue to develop.

I wish you strength and hope, and I'm glad your religion is helping you too.  Please know your forum friends are here for you.  Blessings to you.

@CalminHeart  Another add: just heard someone mention a study that lymph massage helps (top of head down to collar bone).

The Alzheimer's association has helped me find clinical studies and research. I'm excited to see what they say to my request to be part of one.

God bless you, @CalminHeart , my prayers are with you every day. My favorite is Sacred Heart of Jesus and I hope He holds your hand on your way.
