May not be a callus, but a plantar wart. I have one on my heel. Has to be cut out. My salon used to do it when I got a pedi--took seconds and not painful at all. Now they aren't allowed to do it, so you have to use a doctor, and it's a bigger deal. Either way they seem to grow back eventually--months, maybe years.

Just an update on my "callus" for those who share my problem{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}. I went to the dr. today and she said it WAS a callus like I thought and shaved some of it off. It feels much better, but still hurts some when I walk. It is just one little spot. How can one little spot cause so much pain? My dr. told me I was doing a good job of scraping them. She also told me NEVER to wear flip-flops. That's ALL I wear in the summer. So, people, I guess we need to throw away those flip-flops and find a better shoe. It's hard for me to find shoes that support my flat feet.

You could have a bone abnormality (scar from break, or something) underneath where the callus is forming.

My tech wanted to work on me with some blade thingy. Absolutely not, not cutting anything, period.

Several years ago while at an appointment with my then general practitioner, I mentioned pain on the side of my toe. He checked it and determined it was a plantar's wart. He treated it weekly, for over 2 months, with a solution that burned the heck out of my toe...it did nothing. I was told to be patient. I am NOT a patient patient.

I ended up going to a podiatrist to get to the bottom of this. Xrays clearly showed it was a bone spur and not a PW. A very minor surgical procedure took care of it.

Things aren't always what they seem. Trust your instincts.
