That's interesting.  If I were a doctor, I would be annoyed that Walgreens is asserting themselves in patient care like this.

As a patient, I would be annoyed if they did anything other than say "hey, we want you know about this.  Here's a sheet of paper to talk to your doctor about."

Other than that, it's not a big deal.  It was a suggestion.  All one has to do is say thank you-I'll bring this up with my doctor.

You have every right to NOT be on any drug you don't want to be on. That pharmacist was too pushy. I do NOT agree that every diabetic should be on a statin. It seems they are going by heart protection, but ignoring how dibilitating a statin can be for a lot of people.

My mother is diabetic and her doctor put her on a statin about 7 years ago. She suffered terribly and had severe muscle weakness in her arms and legs. Even though she stopped taking the statin, which she didn't need anyway, it took her two years to regain the use of her limbs and she still is unable to lift her left arm.

I realize that some people need statins, but some don't. My mother now has it in her medical charts that she cannot take a statin. Kind of late now that they ruined her mobility.

You're missing my point.  A flyer with her metformin refill or a comment when she picks up her metformin is "not big deal."  A phone call for no other reason that to promote another medication bothers me.  It sounds more like a sales call than a wellness call.

My question is/would be-would the pharmacist call the doctor about it and say the very same thing? Highly doubt it, but this one thinks it's ok to call a patient.

Health matters can be very stressful. As a caregiver I dealt with mega stress about all these matters at different times. Once I had a pharmacist go into this extended "consult" about a medication matter that my mother's specialist had made clear to me. He was the one I trusted. But this pharmacist competely contradicted the specialist and questioned what he had said.

So I called the doctor and he told me to ignore the pharmacist. Bottom line-we all have to be our own health care advocates.  But it is a fact that medical people who are on ego trips and who have other issues can muddy the waters and cause stress. You learn my doing and by doing your own research and trusting your instincts and your smarts. You're very lucky if you have a doctor you trust and can rely on and you can have open communication with them.

Yeah, but who knows exactly what the pharmacist said? Maybe being informative was misinterpreted as pushy.

I've never had a pharmacist call me and make a recommendation.  I go get my pills, they note any specific instructions for that medication, check my chart for any allergies or reactions, tell me how much it is, take my payment and away I go.

Wow! So much interesting  comments, as a diabetic, I struggle daily,with multiple issues, I have two chronic diseases and depend upon my specialist of each for help and information, BUT I trust myself to Question and to carefully consider all info ,as it is my body and I must make sound decisions. As for any Pharmacy ,I may ask questions, they may make suggestions, ultimately it’s up to me.EXCEPT for the outrageous pricing of  most drugs. This has been a very interesting subject, it would be  interesting to see how much could be said here. And yes there is a lot more!
