Re: CHANGING SHOES AT A WEDDING RECEPTION

Omg, congrats.  You and I sound like twins separated at birth, no kiddin'!I gave my granddaughter a big wedding in Malibu 2 years ago.   Her mom did the work, I paid...just how I like it. I had my dress almost a year before. Actually the dress is 25 yrs old, but still trendy, we call it the Wedding Dress! Lol!   Had dress, jewelry, my handbags. BUT I spent the whole entire year looking for shoes,  I have scoliosis, spine issues, RA, and can't wear but 1/2 inch heels .  I must have ordered and sent back 14 prs of shoes. Also I never realized how hard gold shoes were to find, which was only choice for this dress.  I have trouble standing and have osteoporosis and no way was I going to fracture a bone!!!    I wish I brought gold sneakers!,, my granddaughter was 32 when she married, and all her SoCal friends brought sneakers, or these fold up ballet flats they had in purse.  but I opted for a pair of Sam Edelman flats in gold, that were too wide , but I had to wear. Long story, last minute tragedy!!     Everyone at that wedding either ran in restroom to change, or threw shoes under table and pulled flats out of handbag. They were prepared to boogie, and boy did they.  This was an upscale venue, but just cocktail attire   Guys threw off jackets,It was MALIBU HILLS, so weather was warm, with wind afternoon it was outdoor wedding,  indoor reception.

good luck AND BEST TO YOUR SPECIAL GRANDAUGHTER.

Re: CHANGING SHOES AT A WEDDING RECEPTION

@shoekitty Yes, we have many similarities!  My granddaughter's wedding is at a venue in Beverly Hills, so right in that neighborhood!

I think I'll frame those gold slippers I WILL WEAR FOR THE INITIAL PHOTOS AS (like you) they compliment my dress (midi length, so they're seen) but, after that, into the tote bag they will go and I'll be able to "move around" as much as I can.

As I mentioned upthread, I have 6 more beautiful weddings to look forward to in the future, so this will be my "baseline" experience seeing what "works" and what doesn't.  Thanks for the shout-out!!

@pdlinda   Do you know if the fires hit Bel Air Bay Club?.  Our wedding was suppose to be 2020 at Bel air bay club, but lock down prevented that. At the time Calimigos, since it was way out Malibu was ok for weddings larger size.  The sundown weddings are gorgeous!  The Bel Air Bay Club sure has that view from lawn of the ocean and the sunset.  The food is good there, but we thought calimigos even better!!    Hope your wedding is as memorable as ours.  Friends still talk about her wedding, it was so much fun. Just fun. And that's what counts. Enjoy!

Recently read an interview with Jane Fonda. She said she wears sneakers everywhere these days, even to formal events. Said she has 60 pairs, many blinged out. If fashionable Jane can pull it off....  Woman Very Happy

Re: CHANGING SHOES AT A WEDDING RECEPTION

I was the mother of the groom years ago. I got an adorable dress with some awesome shoes. I hated the shoes but they looked fantastic. I did buy some sparkly slippers that matched my dress. I danced the night away in comfort! I still have those slippers, the shoes? I donated right after.

Re: CHANGING SHOES AT A WEDDING RECEPTION

@pdlinda You've been given a lot of good ideas here. My advice would be to stop worrying about your shoes and either swap them out after the ceremony or just go with what is best for your feet and comfort.

Enjoy your granddaughter's special day - everyone will be looking at the beautiful bride and her lovely family, and not at your feet. Many of us seniors have health issues and if narrow-minded people decide to judge us on what we need to wear, that's THEIR problem not ours. You will be there, and that's what's important.

Have a wonderful time!

Re: CHANGING SHOES AT A WEDDING RECEPTION

Half way through my own wedding I changed from my White kid skin heels to a pair of flat Old Main trotters. My gown was floor length and no one knew the difference
