Mindy D,

I have had a whole bunch of what you have said in your very vague description. If you can't stand jn a position for more than a couple minutes without having to sit down? First thing you should do is make an appointment to see your doctor.

If your back hurts it can never hurt to put ice on it. If also might help to take an anti-inflammatory like Advil or Aleve, but only if you have no issues to prevent you from taking this type of med. Since I have had my own personal issues with my spine, Cervical and Lumbar, at times the symptoms varied, but I do understand.

I can speculate very well on what it might/could be, but I will pass on doing so. Said many times on Bulletin Board that I have slept in a recliner for close to 25 years now for spinal reasons. Any bed I won't make it over a couple hours, and then I can barely get out without grabbing something to help me pull myself out of the bed. Then it takes close to an hour to before I have my mobility and flexibility back.

Get some answers from your doc and keep us updated. My best to you,

What I find most disturbing is that you obviously haven't called your doctor for an appointment and diagnosis .....  what's up with THAT ??

Just WHAT are you waiting for ??

Hi Mindy,

Best advice:  Get a referral to an ortho spine doc or a neurosurgeon.  In saying that, I don't mean to imply that you require surgery, but you do need to be seen by a specialist who can order an MRI.

I've been through this very thing you're talking about, except mine was pain related at L5-S1.  65% of my work, professioinally, was in ortho, and based on that experience I'd say that 80% of our docs would order an MRI.

Please do look into this.  Chances are that an MRI is going to be a useful tool in determining exactly what the issue is.

Good luck.  Please get back to us and let us know how things are going.

I am looking for anyone with this particular symptom. The symptom is left out of descriptions of all the conditions I have looked into. I hope to be able to see someone, but I would still like to know if there is anyone like me. My legs are not the problem. If I stand in one place, I get a deep sensation of pulling on my lumbar spine. It happens when I wash dishes, wait for a microwave to heat up something, stand in a shower, stand in front of a door waiting for someone to buzz me in or am in line. I have an immediate urge to sit down on my couch and semi recline. There is no leg pain with this. If I start to walk, I need to hold onto a shopping cart and go. I have very severe fatigue, besides this, and have no physical stamina. Even if I push the cart for ten minutes, I'll have to find a seat and sit down. This sensation has increased in intensity. In years past, used to use a podium at work to lean on and the sensation was not as pronounced. The pain is a dull aching, pulling sensation that is highly difficult to tolerate. Anyone know of anyone else with similar symptoms? I understand that a doctor needs to diagnose me. I will have some trouble with that (another long story).

What e

xactly do you want to hear? Do you want the history Of all my spinal issues? You know you should get a diagnosis from a doctor but your story is (too long)? Have you read any of my 100's of novel length replies?

I doubt your too long of an explanation would be anywhere close to me telling you my many spinal and other leg effecting injuries, and even some other causes. In short: I have 3 crushed Cervical Vertabae/Minus my L-5/L-3 and S-1 Lumbar discs? Why? All 3 completely ruptured.
Did any of this effect my legs? Yes, every single one of them. Unfortunately my ruptured L-5/S- were long before the MRI was available. Those were diagnosed via Myleogram, and resulted in open back surgery. I could not stand/sit/lie down without being in pain. Standing was my least painful option. It took me the best part of a year to regain enough leg strength to again be able to run and/or return to my biggest love, playing hockey once again.
This is just a minute' snipit of my story, now it's your turn. You asked for help and I am trying, but without a diagnosis? I can tell you many issues i have had that effected my legs, but will my personal experiences help you find your cause? I highly doubt it. Remember I said I have been sleeping in a recliner for about 25 years? And 1 of my best friend is a Spinal Surgeon and practices at our State Spinal Institute. As far as what he tells me about sleeping in a recliner? He is also one that has done several MRI's and also done a surgical procedure on mt back?
He tells me if you can sleep in a recliner and wake comfortable!  That is what works for you, so keep doing it.

Re: CAN'T STAND IN ONE PLACE. ANYBODY ELSE?

Did you share the symptom of not being able to stand in one place, with the kind of pain I described and no leg pain?

Re: CAN'T STAND IN ONE PLACE. ANYBODY ELSE?

You've described how I feel.  I have had an MRI for my lower back, and the doctor says he doesn't see anything that would suggest the type of pain I have.  I can't stand for more than a minute in one place without it getting excruciating.  He thinks its a referral pain from my knee and I have been in PT--water therapy for several months.  It's helped some.

Don't know what it is--but kitchen activities (maybe height) aggravate it.  Also, I can't stand still and talk to someone (like at church) for more than about a minute.  I am constantly shifting from one foot to the other.

1 MRI does not always equal another MRI.  Results can vary so much from a weak magnetic MRI to a strong magnetic MRI it is hard to believe. The friend I mentioned in a previous post, the Spinal Surgeon, showed me 2 different MRI's of the same persons spine. It  looked like 1 was in High Definition and the other might as well been taken with a cell phone.

Sure, they both showed the spine, but 1 had precise detail of every little spec in/on the spine. The other? You would have never seen the problem with this patients spine. Might wantnto keep that in mind. That is yet another reason I always seek out Sports Medicine Certified Doctors for serious issues.

Do what you wish with this information. It is something I saw with my own eyes.
