I went to the same facility/group from my first mammogram. Then one year they stopped taking my insurance so went to another place. I was called back for an ultrasound then sent to a surgeon for a biopsy. He read the X-rays and said there was no reason to do a biopsy - that he saw nothing wrong at all.
I later learned that this particular place does this to women all the time!
I hate to use the word scam but it sure does seem like just a way to make more money.
I'm now back with my first group/facility - it was just the one year I couldn't go there.
Good luck to the OP!

When I had my first mammogram a few years ago I was called and asked to come in for a second set of scans due to "dense tissue". I scheduled the appointment only to find out I was going to have to pay for that set of scans. I refused as I didn't want to pay. Due to COVID I didn't go to the Dr the past 2 years but did go early this year and got a mammogram again. This time while I did nothing different or ask the tech to do anything different the same radiology office was able to read the scans. They sent me a pamphlet letting me know I had dense tissue and the small risk of undected cancer as a result.
I was rather irritated that 3 years ago I was asked to get a second set of scans but this year I wasn't. This year I figure a big part of that is due to COVID and not wanting to schedule additional scans that were not needed.

You can get a copy of the radiology report. Just call the doctor ( or the center where you had your mammogram) who sent you for the mammogram and ask for a copy. It should state why you are being called back.
I have only had one call back in 40 years of mammograms....and it was for calcifications. They were removed and were benign.
Ultrasound or even another mammogram is usually the next step.

@Tinkrbl44 , I would call and ask to speak to radiologist about the findings and why the long wait for the MRI . If I was still concerned, I would try to get the MRI scheduled somewhere else-
I agree with Laura14, I have found there to unnecessary testing- I have dense, cystic breasts, ( all my life) they are fluid-filled. After the last annual mammo & ultrasound, they called me back for a repeat and said they were just cysts, and then made me come back for a 6 month follow up Mammo and ultrasound- also fine. At that appointment, the radiologist said come back again in 6 months. I asked why it's necessary. His answer:" Why not? " . Just no. I am waiting for the next annual -

If it was misread, or they needed more clarification...they call back. If it's cancer, I think it might look different to them than normal. Don't worry over what isn't right now. I say/think that if they were worried, they'd tell you to go right in. Pretty sure of that one.

There are 2 different mammograms when scheduling, a screeening/routine one when you don't have any problems or concerns and done yearly. And a diagnostic one, is when there may be need for follow. When I lived in California, I had a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound done one week after my screening mammogram. They got me in fast. I now live in another state and having a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound after having an MRI done and it's taken over a month to get in. I've gone to the same hospital for all my mammograms for the last 6 years but those were all screening. When scheduling the diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound I did ask why so long to get in and that you would think you'd get in sooner but her response is, that's how far out they're scheduled to.

Unacceptable.
Good grief! I'd be suspicious.

I was called back about 15 years ago for a second mammogram that still did not read well. So and ultra sound was done it showed my dense breast had calcium deposits. It was all fine.
