I have mentioned previously I took a bad fall on ice and broke my shoulder...I had surgery and am on the mend....still in a sling and not supposed to move the arm from the elbow up.

The incision pain is not that bad but the bruise pain is....well...painful -keeps me up at night.  The arm is still swollen (accident was Dec. 6) and the skin in the bruised area is tender.  I do ice the area and I looked on line and there is nothing much about what do do for the pain.

i will discuss with the doctor when I see him on Thursday, but until then I am thinking maybe someone might have some advice.   thanks

@Mom2Dogs @I take Tylenol 500, Rapid Release for pain These are very effective, fast acting and they don't cause bleeding or bruising. If my pain is bad, I take two, which is what the directions say to take. There are directions on the bottles. They are made to go to work really fast and are suprisingly effective for pain compared to plain Tylenol.

You can ask your pharmacist questions about them and if you want to you can call your doctor's office before your visit and ask if it's ok to take them if you feel like it.

So very sorry you're suffering so much. Have you discussed physical therapy?  If it is ordered for you get as much PT as possible. I'm sure your pain is so tender that the thought of it right now seems impossible right now. You are probably on a prescription painkiller and ice packs for swelling but what about an anti inflammatory? Good luck in your recovery!!

Maybe heating pad or ice? I never know which to use for what and end up consulting Dr. Google. I would suggest Aleve but not sure if that would work as it's for arthritis. I agree a rapid release capsule may work. I've used the extra strength rapid release Tylenol for knee pain and it was effective.

Another excellent internet medical site is WebMD.  They have been around since the glory days of AOL 2.0.  👍🏾

@Mom2Dogs

Have you tried ice?  It works very well.  Besides Tylenol, find out if you can use Ibuprofen.

If pain is severe ask your doctor if you can take both.  They work using different pathways and can take them together.

Warning about ibuprofen long term.  Stomach ulcer and it acts like an anti-coagulant.

I don't know what medication you are taking or conditions you may have, so you absolutely need to ask your doctor about taking Ibuprofen.  It's also an anti-inflammatory and really does work better than Tylenol.  In combination, excellent.

Have you tried one of those pain patches like Salonpas?  They come in different sizes and can be helpful.

Deep tissue bruising will take weeks to heal.

@Spacrazy I see the surgeon to remove the stitches on Thursday am.   I am sure PT will be discussed.

Pain killers were gone a few days ago.  The surgery pain has really been gone for a few days, I just discovered on Sunday where the pain was coming from, when I tried to wash the area and noticed the bruising was really ugly....and I mean really ugly, ha, ha.
