@hckynutjohn I did not mean to ghost you. I read my mri report as my specialist explained it to me. My L1 and L2 are broken horizontally across the vertebrae as is my S1 which attaches the spine to the pelvis.
I also have RA which makes it more difficult.
I did get some interesting info here
thank you for negating the negative post.
and thank you to all who responded.

Ask your back doctor if it's possible you have compression fractures.
I say this because my spouse has been seeing a top rated back/spine doctor for over a year. He is in extreme severe back pain.
They have done eblations, etc. over the past 10 months -- no relief, in fact, he can only sleep in recliner since the pain is too extreme when he lays down.
Well, his pulmonary specialist ordered a petscan since he also wanted to rule out he had cancer.
OMG the pet scan showed he had 5 broken vertebraes classified as compression fractures at L11-12-14 areas. They did a non invasive procedure called kyroplasty where they cemented these. He was pain free🙂🙂🙂
Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of them. (He takes high doses of prednisone) and has now lower back pain. They did MRI and found he has 3 other compression fractures in the lower spine.
Ask your dr if you may have these. Even he maybe surprised as I know his back surgeon was as he wasn't looking for them. By the way, they even had him on low dose of oxycontin and was still in relentless pain.
Hope you feel better soon🙂

Don't know if you read any of my many posts where I mentioned this. Because of my back issues, and 1 of my real good friends is an Spinal Micro-surgeon. He did my last surgery to remove my ruptured L-3 lumbar disc.
Anyways, I have been sleeping in a recliner since the mid 1990's. I bought an adjustable bed, didn't help a bit. Air bed/Memory Foam/Water bed, and nothing helped. My Doc friend told me other, than my arthritis and scar tissue between my 3 removed lumbar discs? Nothing more he can do, so!! Keep sleeping in a recliner.
Spent many weeks, over a 14 year period, in the hospital. Only time I slept in a bed was my 8 days in ICU, when on Morphine. All my other weeks were spent in a recliner, a specific type in my hospital 2nd home over all those those years.
As long as I stay out of beds/keep up all my abdominal strengthening exercises, and also my stretching for flexibility exercises! I am pretty much pain free. I do get an occasional stiff day, but very infrequently. Without doing my exercise program? "Woe is me"!

yes I've read many of your posts.
Interesting the last time he slept in bed was while he was hospital on morphine. Other than this it's the recliner.
I make sure he walks as much as possible as he is very limited in his endurance.
thank you for your comments & stay healthy

Good, I hope everything helps him, even if just a little bit. Many don't realize how completely debilitating back problems can be. Give my best to your husband.

thank you so much @hckynutjohn
He has many health issues but having extreme back pain has really impacted his ability to enjoy life.
Best to you for good healthy days!

Thank you for the info...I am going to have to reread my mri again to double check the Dx.
I have found laying in bed on my left side is helpful. I have a great power recliner that works too.
