I had a double mastectomy and reconstruction 2 years ago. I have never gotten feeling back and I still have phantom itches which can't be scratched. Ugh.

but I'm alive and my new bosoms are spectacular. I'm on anastrozole for 3 more years and that is by far the worst part of my experience. Wishing you complete healing and ongoing good health.

@Stelladorable, that's the medication that I take, I started taking it in September and my doctor said that I'll be on it for five years. No side effects for me, how about you?

@JaneMarple I have had a hard time with joint pain, especially in my hands. In fact my onco has me taking a 45 day break, which has helped through the holiday season. Hope you have continued good luck with the med.

@JaneMarple  I wanted to mention that you should make sure you are getting bone density testing while you are on the anastrozole. I'm sure your doc is on top of it, but I let it slide until this past summer. Sure enough, osteopoenia of my right hip. NBD, but something else to watch.

I had a lumpectomy 7 years ago and there are still times when I "overdo it", by lifting heaviy objects or just overusing my arms, I notice that the are is sensitive and, yes, I suppost it does itch.

Then, this past April, I had a lumpectomy in the opoosite breast and the area where I had a sentinal node biopsy causes me some discomfort and itch.

I have brought this up to my doctors and they all say that this is "normal", even years afterward.  Just something that we will have to endure!!

I took Tamoxifan for 5 years 2016-2021.  No problems.  Is that still prescribed?  Always new drugs out there but Tamo was used for many years....

It's usually prescribed for perimenopausal women. Once you've gone thru meno, they give you anastrozole/exemestane.

I took anastrozole for 5 years and was completely miserable while taking it. The frequent hot flashes were unbearable, followed by chills and nausea. The pain in my legs was awful and I was exhausted. I felt my body was just out of control. My doc did give me Paxil and that really slowed down the hot flashes, but it was a tough 5years.

My radiation was completed in 2015 and my left breast still itches. I use moisturizers and sometimes Benadryl itch relief  lotion or Gold Bond itch relief lotion. I don't think that skin will ever be the same.
