@Deree  Completely understand and respect your vulnerability.  These boards can be insensitive, unfortunately.  Any pharmacist would be the right person to really figure out what would be right.  There are a couple of other common nerve drugs like Topiramate but I am not sure if that would be appropriate for your situation.

@LTT1  I honestly had not a lot of pain even when I actually fell and broke my wrist.  I got incredibly sick to my stomach and actually went to the bathroom to see which way it would come, up or down.  Luckily, it didn't either way after a while.

My wrist was more stiff and achy and when I had the cast, it was heavy since I am a tiny little thing.  I honestly felt better before it was on and after it was off because the icing really helped me and I could get to the right place.

They did prescribe pain pills, one naproxen sodium or Naprosyn which I can not take.  It rips my stomach up and Tramadol which is a controlled painkiller that I did not touch because I simply didn't need it and didn't want to risk it.

If I had to break something and have a fast recovery, I did it the right way.  I was lucky not to have complications or any major damage.  I was done with a cast in 3 weeks.  The break wasn't even real clear on the Xray because it was so nothing but definitely a hairline break in the bone.

I do not recommend it!  Smiley Wink

@Laura14

I was prescribed tramadol for migraines and took this for years (pardon if this is a repeat for you.) one thing I noticed with it was that my tongue felt numb occasionally!

The painkillers I was rx’d did their damage, but I wouldn’t trade those years of being able to function as a mom for anything.

Motrin was never my go-to for migraine pain. Many preps I took had Tylenol and aspirin and caffeine.

The newer, scarier pain meds were not know/prescribed by my doctors.

Pain due to nerve involvement must be so much more dire than simply pain due to inflammation? IDK

@LTT1  Tramadol is a Class IV drug and a lot of people have trouble with it.  It is slightly addictive not highly which is why it is on the controlled list.  A lot of people say it makes them loopy too.  I am glad to hear you did well on it.

Nerve pain hurts because it's not like a muscle you can massage or affect with hot or cold therapy.  It is just pure pain like sciatica which is the nerve down your leg or carpal tunnel which is a wrist/hand nerve.  It's not pleasant and not easy to handle since there's no "cushion" I guess is the best way to describe it.

 It's just instant feeling good or bad like when you hit your funny bone.  There's nothing you can do until it stops reacting.

@Deree

Since you’re interested in going the natural way I want to share with you about alpha lipoic acid. It’s a supplement that is good for nerve issues. Diabetics take it for neuropathy, which is why I take it and it helps immensely. Currently I’m taking the Procaps brand from Andrew Lessman but it can easily be obtained elsewhere.

I record Dr. Becker each day on TV. He has an hour program and talks about different health issues and different supplements. Some days he has where people call in with their health questions. At a time when I was praying and searching for answers I found this. He has helped more than I can say and I have learned so much. With the example of the alpha lipoic acid—he talked about all the many health benefits for the full hour one day. His shows are often repeated.

I wish you the the best of health. ♥️

@Teddie  Thanks. I was just reading about alpha lipoic acid yesterday.  I'm very glad to hear you're getting relief with the ALA.  I will have to run it by my doc who I will see next week.  I still want to try it as a topical first.  There's been no change in my hand and fingers these past 2 weeks.  No better.  No worse.  I can function pretty ok but the pain is very wearing on me.  I still want an MRI and will be pushing for that when I see doc.

@Deree

That sounds like a good plan. I hope you find some answers as to what is going on.
