Blocked Eustachian Tube in Ear Anyone had ???

Going on a week now and ear totally blocked and can't hear. On a nasal spray recommended by Dr. But s still no relief. Anyone else had this and ideas how to unblock without yet another Dr visit'?

Checked on internet and some say it can be months before relief.

Any ideas are appreciated.

You need a decongestant, if you haven't tried that already, to relieve the pressure.  I used to get this until I went on year round allergy meds, which decreased the allergic response and inflammation that caused it.  If it's been a while, a doctor might also prescribe steroids to help with the swelling.

As @lolakimono said a decongestant should help.  I also have another little trick that always helps me and helped my kids when they had that.  Get some mentholatum (it's milder than vicks vapo-rub) and massage it into your neck from just under and behind the affected ear, all the way down to the collarbone.  Then wrap a nice comfy scarf around your neck.  Between the massaging and the mild warmth that is generated, it seems to help.

There is also a video out there could help you out.  It's Lymph Drainage for the ears from a Louisville Massage Therapist....google it.  I'm afraid if I post the link, it will get deleted.

Two years ago, I had this, plus an infection. They gave me antibiotics , decongestants and steroids. Nothing worked and I ended up with an in office procedure to drain the fluid.

If it's a steroid nasal spray, which I'm assuming it is, they can take up to 5 days to kick in. I was told to take Sudafed (the kind you need to show your driver's license to buy) every 4-6 hrs - unless you have hypertension or heart issues.

Yes, it can take awhile. For me it was about 2 weeks.  Keep blowing your nose (not too hard) and swallowing.

Would your spray be Flonase?

Once it's blocked, it's hard to treat with just a nasal spray alone.

Like another poster mentioned, try some Mucinex also.

And be patient!

If this could be chronic, you may need to stay on the nose spray, 1 dose a day.

I had that done when I was 18. I had a really bad cold/infection that lingered for months. I ended up with fluid behind my eardrums and infection. Had mine done in a hospital.

I used to get this frequently and eventually had to have drainage tubes put in - like they do for kids.

Thanks all.

Guess I have to try a few more tricks before I see the ENT Dr.

Maybe I won't have to.

Thanks again !!
