Believe it or not, I have never had a desire to have a TV in my bedroom, so we’ve never had one there.
As a teenager, I used to read, and study in bed, but as a married adult I have never read in bed. I have no nightstands or lamps in my bedroom. Right now I have blackout curtains and insulated drapes at my windows, making the room very dark, and just the way I like it. If it’s near bedtime and I yawn 3x, I’m ready to crawl in my bed, and be fast asleep in no time.

Which mattress is that?

@Justice4all- the brand is King something from Sleepy's; I have had it a few years now and I must say it was not cheap even though I brought it on sale but so worth it. It has the pillowtop plus I have a quilted mattress pad over that and the mattress itself is already thick when I buy sheets I have to make sure the fitted is big enough to accommodate all of that.

@phoenixbrd- see my response in #15 that I posted. I'm at work so I don't remember the exact name of the mattress brand.

@RedTop I couldn't live without a tv or radio talking me to sleep. Maybe it's a throwback to the bedtime stories of childhood even though I don't remember my parents ever doing that.
@GenXmuse He also recommended melatonin in small doses. I didn't really write that part down because it wasn't necessary for me. I'm sure you can google him and find out what his recommendations are. I think he's been on Dr. Oz too so I'll bet it's somewhere on site.
One thing he did mention was banana tea. Magnesium is very helpful according to him at making you fall asleep. He said peel a banana and boil it in the peel in hot water. Most of the magnesium is in the peel which is why he says to do that. Apparently it's a good sleep tonic.
I hope you find your answer soon.

For me right now I completely buy into 75% of sleeplessness being depression and anxiety. My bad sleeplessness started with my Mom's cancer and continues after her death.
I walk, I take melatonin sometimes. I take magnesium, I'm going to try taking it later at night. I had already decided earlier today to put a 7 pm end to phone and tablet screens. I do watch TV in my bedroom.
I'm doing something for my depression and anxiety but it might take a med too. It's not something you can always just talk your way out of.

While I was working, I'd fall asleep most nights while watching tv, get up, go to bed and sleep soundly til the alarm went off. I retired completely 5 years ago and developed insomnia almost immediately. I keep very busy during the day and avoid caffeine after 6 but even with prescription sleep aids, some nights I'm up til 5 in the morning. I am guilty of playing more on my Kindle and phone which could be the cause. As for depression, I do worry about my husband's numerous health issues but I really don't want to get on anti-depressants. I'm also dealing with age-related issues, so maybe subconsciously this is effecting my sleep.
