I use a stand up walker while walking and I make sure to step instead of sliding along. One foot is smaller than the other like 2 sizes. I have tried the battery operated pedometer that you can wear around your neck or pants pocket. I have a galaxy cell phone and installed a pedometer app. I try to count my steps while walking. The previously mentioned products don't seem to be accurate. I walked around in the house for 45 minutes and the cell phone app recorded only 26 minutes and counted every other step.I adjusted everything on the cell phone app. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

The Apple watch does a great job with tracking.

@santorini : Thanks for replying so fast. The price for Apple products for me are difficult to justify but I understand that you get what you pay for something.

@SouthernBee -- I love my Fit Bit Versa watch. I bought mine at Costco. It's wonderful for tracking your steps and heart rate. They offer a premium subscription, but you don't need it. It's easy to use, and it tracks every step much more accurate than the phone!

@Beauty Maven : I only have Sams Club in my area. I will research info on your watch. Thanks.

I have a Fitbit Versa which I like very much to track steps, heartrate, and sleep. HOWEVER, it does not track steps if you are not swinging your arms along with your steps. I spent a long time pushing a cart through Costco, and it recorded about 80 steps! Same thing on a golf course pushing my clubs with a cart. My brother advised putting my Fitbit in my pocket if I'm not swinging my arms. Works great! My next Costco trip logged over 1,000 steps. I got mine at Kohls.

Regardless of ones purpose for walking, only 2 things are necessary.
1) Time walking.
2) Heart Rate while walking.
Blood circulation/Rehabilitation/Exercise, it makes no difference unless a person is competing for something/someone, or for who knows what reason.
Distance measured with a pedometer, be it manual or digital will vary regardless of $$$ spent to purchase it.
Time, on the other hand, runs by seconds/minutes/hours, be it Analog or Digital time.
You want to measure something like improvement? If you know your Heart Rate and Time Spent, and how you feel during and after? Steps/blocks/miles mean nothing. How big/small one's steps/or number? Same.
When competing in Road Races/State Olympic Speed Skating/Recovering from Heart Attacks or Major Injuries! My focus was always on Time and Heart Rate, and I always reached my intended goals, in my 40's-50's-60's-70's-80's years old.

Maybe the Fitbit Flex would be an option?

@mac116 : I had my cell phone in my pocket while walking in Walmart pushing a cart and recorded 80 steps. This was Wednesday for about 20 minutes and recorded 10 minutes.
I walked in the Church gym on Friday for 45 minutes and only recorded 30 minutes and 2700 steps. The cell phone in my skirt pocket. I had worked up a sweat and was breathing hard.

@hckynutjohn : Thank you. I will try to remember to check my heart rate and time. Everyone in the church gym was counting laps around and time. I was focused on staying out of everyone's way, standing up straight and doing actual steps instead of sliding around. Really hard for me but I refuse to sit down and give up.
