Re: Been reading a book on giving up sugar.

Sugars are naturally in products like fruits and are added to so many products these days you'd never think of (e.g., pasta sauce), that I think it makes sense to try to not eat many other sweet refined treats (e.g., cookies, pies, cakes). We get plenty of sugar as it is.

I still ate pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, but am trying to have it just as an occasional treat, rather than something in my kitchen to tempt me daily.

Re: Been reading a book on giving up sugar.

I posted this on another sugar thread last night.

I just finished my Whole30 yesterday. 30 days without sugar (of any kind, real, fake or otherwise), grains, alcohol and sulphites among other things).

I was already a Eat Clean Diet graduate and thought I knew where sugar was, but my free range organic frozen grilled chicken is soaked in dextrose (sugar), frozen potatoes are soaked in sugar, organic/conventional chicken/beef broth/stock all have sugar.

It's in things you wouldn't even imagine.

Hi All!

Can anyone give me a sample menu of what they eat for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and Snacks if any? I work 5 days a week so I would have to do a brown bag lunch.

I am enjoying this thread. Thanks everyone!

Brunette

This is an example of my higher protein/lower carb eating plan. It has worked really well for me in terms of my weight, feeling good, and keeping me healthy.

Breakfast: 2 eggs, 1/2 vegan sausage pattie, vegetable (sometimes add low-fat cheese) omelet

Lunch: Canned salmon with dark greens, tomatoes.

Snack: 8-10 dry roasted, unsalted cashews or almonds or equivalent walnuts

Dinner: Baked de-skinned fish or chicken, vegetables, and either brown rice, sweet potato or bread. Sometimes have fruit immediately after dinner.

I drink mostly water and green tea throughout the day, plus one cup of coffee each day.

I do not eat beef, lamb, or pork. On weekends, I'll have carbs at two meals and a couple of desserts (low-fat ice cream, cookies, piece of cake).

Puglet, standing ovation for you and applauding. Great job!!!

Do be aware that, just because someone chooses not to eat sugar (or anything else), that does not mean they feel deprived.

Sometimes eating specific foods or ingredients are the things that cause one to be deprived of feeling good and being healthy.

When I eat well, I never feel deprived. If I'm not eating well, I never feel satisfied.since I began losing weight, I've eaten almost all of my calories etween 5pm and 7:30 pm. Not for everyone, but it works well for me. I never "gave up" sugar. I just stopped eating it.

I just wanted to comment on how much I enjoy reading your posts.

You have such a wonderful way of looking at things and it is clear from your posts that giving up sugar has nothing to do with deprivation and everything to do with feeling at your best.

I refrain from eating sugar myself and it allows me to live a very healthy life. Sugar makes me sluggish and sleepy, so I eat a clean diet with lots of vegetables and a little protein and fat. So far, so good.Smile

Re: Been reading a book on giving up sugar.

My husband was critically ill and hospitalized for a long, long time last year/ into this year. Many specialists came and went, I remember once when an infectious disease doctor from the CDC was in the room and they brought my husband coffee. The PCA asked if he needed sugar, he said no. The doctor said, Glad to hear that - sugar is so inflammatory to the system. He said he considers it poison, well almost. Cool

Re: Been reading a book on giving up sugar.

Two changes I have made are giving up diet soda (all sodas) and flavored creamers in my coffee. I never put sugar in it but did put French vanilla creamer - that type of thing. Now I drink it black. Actually taste the coffee {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Small changes, nothing I really miss as it was nothing that I really needed.

Re: Been reading a book on giving up sugar.

Plain and simple, I dumped the sugar including the artificial version and lost 20 pounds. I probably get some in products but at least I am not adding it.

I will make one comment since you all are probably saying why is she avoiding the sugar substitutes. I will tell you... they are sweet and they set me up for wanting more and for craving more food. I cannot explain it but sweet is sweet and I am a bit of an addict. I have been off for over 3 months and I am feeling really good.
