Anytime I go to the hygienist, they check my blood pressure. No big deal.

Mine did that at one time but has since stopped.

When I went to have my last root canal mine went up but they said everyone's does when they are having a root canal lol.

Only happened when I was getting general anesthesia for dental surgery.
Under normal stuff (fillings, bonding, simple extractions, etc.) ... never.

I have been to 2 root canal specialists, and neither took my BP.

That's just stupid to check everyone's bp at the dentist. Sounds like a good way to rack up more insurance $$ for some and out of pocket for others. And yes, whether billed for it or not, I'm sure you pay.
It would be nice to be optional for those not going to the dr. regularly but unnecesary for those who do and have no problems. More of everyone must do all these things we don't need to do.

I don’t have dental insurance. They only take blood pressure maybe once a year. I pay the same no matter what. This is for a cleaning.

I've never had my BP taken at the dentist, unless it was a specialist like an oral surgeon.

That is usually done as a precautionary measure before any twilight sleep, sleep meds via veins, etc but I believe it is always safer to have any type of procedure where you may not be awake done in a regular Hopital by a certified licensed Dentist and assistants, and right near triage unit in case your heart stops and you need to be revived.
Remember time is of the essence so everyting should be in place before you need to be admitted, and the best place is a hospital setting with the life saving Triage Unit very close by.
Also remember "The life you save may be your own".
I always ask plenty questions before I go anywhere and make sure nothing is left to chance.
BTW I always have someone with signed legal notarized full Heath care proxy rights to make all deciisons for me in case I lapse into a com,a or lose my voice and cannot speak for myself.

If you are having a procedure or under anesthesia I can understand it. But if not I hope they dont do it at my dentist! I have enuff anxiety going to the dentist that my BP will not be normal just like when I go to a doctor.
The Podiatrist used to take the BP but my new one does not and Im glad!
The Dentist did at my first appointment there.
