Re: BEST COLONOSCOPY PREP SO FAR......

I might try Suflave or the pills on my next colonoscopy prep. The very first G.I. doctor I had gave me a liquid prep that smelled so bad, like sulfur. I threw up and tossed it. Took the Miralax prep every other time, but can't drink that much Gatorade. I had to put it in a tall glass with a lot of ice, and sipped it through a straw. Ugh.

I used that method too when I had mine this year. I can't keep that Golightly done. Much better.

@tends2dogs - this sounds like it indeed may be better than the traditional method.  I can't do the Go-lightly whatever it is.  I start throwing up and other things that I won't go into here.  Can't imagine drinking that much Gatorade but at least you can pick your flavor.

You can pick your flavor as long as it is not in the orange/red/purple colors. So I went with the sugar free Cherry Gatorade. (It's actually white.)

p.s. I was told water wasn't the best option, because Gatorade replenishes electrolytes.  And that may be important for some people.

Re: BEST COLONOSCOPY PREP SO FAR......

I've had three so far.  1st one, gallon of something that smelled and tasted like lemon pledge.  (Thick). Puking half way through it.  2nd time, something called prep o pick.  Easier.  Last one, forget the name, but had to drink 2/ 10 oz clear liquids, then laxatives.  Was the best so far.  I do eat lightly a couple days in advance.  After the procedure, I eat lightly too.  No big meal for me.

Next day back to somewhat normal eating.  I have two years till the next one.  Whew!  After first, I ask for 7-8 am appt.  No 11 or noon appt for me again.

The last time I had a Colonoscopy I had to prep with Miralax and Dulcolx.  My problem is I can't stand the taste of Gatorade.  All I taste is salt.

I have to schedule one soon.  I'd rather not eat any solids for a week than drink Gatorade.

I can get cleaned out by eating something with gluten in it.

@tends2dogs  I am glad every thing went well for you.  I hope I have a positive  experience too.

I am scheduled for cataract surgery next week....oh joy.

@Carmie  First I hope all goes well with your eye surgery next week.

I am not a Gatorade fan.  I drank the white one that is cherry flavored and the ZERO one.  I did not taste salt at all.....just very sweet.  In an above post I mentioned that you don't have to mix it with Gatorade and gave the other options.  Also, someone else said they mixed it with water and that was fine with their doc.  I hope you find a prep you can tolerate and that it works for you.

All the best~

My first one was GoLightly.  No way I can drink all that liquid.  Second one was MiraLax/Dulcolax combo but my instructions were different.  Threre was no getting up in the middle of the night to take anything.  However, the amount of liquid required in the amount of time given I just can't do. And all of the beverage choices are too sweet and I like sweet.  I tried and eventually threw up.  I won't do that again.  Next time I'll slow it down and dilute the beverage so it's not so sickeningly sweet.

@Icegoddess Start earlier in the day and drink at your own pace.  I had a Crockpot of broth on low and drank it along with the MiraLax mix to cut the sweet.

I think the getting up in the middle of the night is a "new" idea.  Doesn't work for me.  I need my sleep.

@tends2dogs I agree about the middle of the night thing.  I can't remember when I had to take that 2nd Dulcolax.  That first one I had to take the night before prep day and it hit me like a ton of bricks.  I never take laxatives so I may be sensitive to them.

I wonder if the day will ever come with them prescribing a light prep ... then anesthsia ...  a roto-rooter cleaning, followed by the colonoscopy.  Hope so.

Re: BEST COLONOSCOPY PREP SO FAR......

@tends2dogs   Surprised you've never heard of or found this prep until recently. This is the best known prep ever to get this VERY important test done.

The very first time I attempted to prep for a colonoscopy I had the Go-Litely stuff. This IS the most disgusting prep ever!!!!!  I got the first glass down, the second, not so much. It came back up. That was the end. I cancelled my appointment, had to.

Then on my own I googled preps for this test and came across Ducolax and Miralax. Done and done - prep down, cleaned out, test done. Great report. Since my first one, I've done a few more tests. Now that I 70, my last most recent test was about 4-5 year ago. Had the okay from my Dr to wait another 10 yeawrs for the next. They tell you after a certain old age, you really don't need another one so I think I've had my last one.

Great for you for your 'discovery' AND most importantly, great for a clean bill of colon health.

These tests DO save lives of colon and rectal cancers. I know this for a fact because it saved my husband.

AMEN!!! The prep for a coloscopy is the worst part. I can't drink a gallon of anything in a short period of time. The last time I wasn't sure I was going to be able to have the test. I threw up but that's all until about 2 in the morning. I take Linzess and I swear if you take a few of those you'll be good.
