Awful head cold won't go away

I have had a head cold for a week and a half and it is driving me crazy. It all started with a sore throat and escalated to a nose that won't stop running. I don't want to be gross but my nose runs all by itself and I have gone through one and a half boxes of tissues. Have any of you had this and if so, is there any way stop it? I had a pain doctor appointment on Monday and took my box of tissues with me because a few just wouldn't do. I'm surprised I still have skin left on my nose. Between the chronic pain and this I am a mess and life is not very enjoyable right now. Sorry for the vent.
