Arthritis pain, will it stop?

I am into my senior years. I have never experienced any kind of arthritis although my mother was almost disabled by it. I was on a cruise and for 10 days slept on a mattress that I would call a cement block, every day was worse than the previous day. I got home and from the end of Sept. on.... I have been fighting terrible pain in my shoulders and my knees. I am not the least overweight, never had problems with mobility nor my knees. This is all new for me. My left hand swells up during the night and I can't wear my wedding rings but that is the least of my problems. I hate pain and have been in PAIN for so long now. Getting out of bed is a horrific, major achievement. Getting up or down stairs, almost impossible but I do it because I push through the pain. Common sense tells me to not stop moving.

What the heck is wrong?
