My 75 year old DS has one finger that has very painful arthritis in it, it's a bit curved now. If you happen to have a similar situation, what is your go to for pain relief? TIA

Volteran gel is the only that helps me.  It's pricey but there is a generic that goes under the name Diclofenac Gel.  Works the same way.  Good luck.

My 80 year mother had the same thing. Tart cherry pills and tumeric helped so much. Watch inflamatory foods like shrimp and sugar.

Did she ever try a cortisone shot?

The top joint of my right pinky is bent at 45 degrees and hurts.  My doc told me to keep it wrapped with the athletic tape that adheres to itself.  That does seem to help but it's hard to keep the tape dry.  

If it's super painful I take an Aleve but not often.  Maybe once every week or two.  Otherwise I just live with it.  Doc also recommended turmeric.

Years agoo I had issues with one finger and had a splint made to protect it. If I bumped that finger it sent a wave of pain to my elbow and/or shoulder. It's no longer that severe but my right hand acts up and can go into spasms. I wear these open tip gloves when I need them.

I'm wearing them today, yesterday I was wearing the ones below because the pain was more severe. In case he needs the full glove.

@Bonkers1.  I also use Voltaren on painful fingers, although it must be repeated throughout the day as its effect doesn't last but about 1 1/2 hrs for me.  Nothing will help mis-shapen fingers.

At least you can identify them as fingers.  Mine look like a mess of broken bones.  On the bright side we are still around to talk about them.

Be very careful with Voltaren, it comes with a boat load of side effects and must be used very strictly by its instructions.  For this reason, I choose not to use it.

@Shelbelle Two doctors have told me not to use it excessively but, since it doesn't enter your bloodstream directly, there little danger.  It does contain NSAIDs, but I took big doses of that medication for 35 years before I had any effects from it.
