Arthritis Bump on the Top of the Foot

[ Edited ]

I'm very fortunate that I don't have much in the way of arthritis with the exception of an arthritic bump on the very top of my left foot.  It's right in the area where shoelaces would crisscross.  As a matter of fact, shoes/sneakers that have laces seem to aggravate it, so I've been wearing shoes that are cut lower and don't lay on the bump.  Shoes like slip on Sketcher type, ballerina or similar.  Winter months are coming, so will have to find something more water resistant than the summer types of shoes.

Anyone here dealing with an arthritic foot bump, and if so, how are you dealing with it?

Re: Arthritis Bump on the Top of the Foot

Are you positive the bump is from arthritis, I had 3 such bumps on the top of my foot and they were ganglion cysts, fortunately after several months they migrated into the blood stream and were gone for good. My podiatrist drained them but the fluid kept returnng until they disappeared.

Has your doctor told you that this was a "Arthritis" bump?

Yes,  doctor diganosed it as a bone spur on the top of the foot caused by arthritis.

@ciao_bella     I have osteo arthritis and two hip and two knee replacements... thankfully not had this issue with my feet. I hope you find a way to  alleviate your discomfort.Heart

Re: Arthritis Bump on the Top of the Foot

I had a ganglion cyst on the top of my right foot.  After much pain I had 2 cortisone injections in the foot.  I try to only wear shoes that avoid contact in that area and for the most part I wear loosely laced sneakers.  I believe my was the result of tying my laces too tightly.  I have also had heel spurs on that foot too.  Doctor said if the ganglion cyst continued to cause pain it would need to be filed down surgically.  Trying to avoid that.

@ciao_bella    I have that same bump; I think many people do but it's not arthritis.  It seems to be a nerve in the top of the foot.  I've had it most of my life.  I remember being trapped in an airplane seat once with my sneaker laces pressing on my foot until I thought I was going to die.   It's just on my right foot so I'm careful to not tie that shoe snugly.  I make those laces loose.

@ciao_bella

Did the doctor recommend a course of treatment?

I think I have arthritis is one of my joints on my big toe.  I have tried to accomodate it by wearing wide shoes, but my heels are not wide, so hard to get a good fit.  I need to go to the doctor, but my sense is this wil require surgery, which I think I want, but not right now.  In the meantime, I watch "My Feet Are Killing Me" on TLC.  The podiatric surgeons remove arthritis from toe joints with surgery.  Don't recall any episodes about bone spurs.

Best of luck and good health!

Re: Arthritis Bump on the Top of the Foot

@ciao_bella - yes!!! I have an arthritis bump on the top of my foot, diagnosed by my doctor. It's too big to be a cyst.  It doesn't really hurt too much, but I get a terrible cramp in that foot during the night.  Doc suggested I take magnesium. For what it's worth.💗
