Needless to say I am not happy, I think my next appointment with be with an arthritis specialist.
PS I am only 61 what will happen in the years to come
I know you posted recently that you lost your job, not sure if you lost your insurance but anyway, IMO, there's no sense in spending a $300 consulation fee with any other specialist.
These nodules are common in OA and there is nothing anyone can do for you. There is an entire thread about hand arthritis and posters who have it gave excellent suggestions. Other than finger splints, NSAIDs, turmeric, finger exercises, these nodules don't go away.
They are: Heberden's nodes and Bouchards nodes depending on what finger joint the bony growths are. I am sure the ortho doctor told you this. Sometimes they hurt more than other times. Un fortunately many of us live with these. There is no cure or any other treatments a specialist will give you,Might as well save your money

My doctor told me everyone (that lives over 50 years of age) will get osteoarthritis. It's a part of aging.

exactly right, The human body was never built to last 90+ years so aging weakens the bones, makes our joints weaken, bony overgrowths are formed because as the body ages and the bones weaken, the body tries to make more bone but it does so by the bone spurs it grows, not the actual bones themselves.
Genetics plays a huge role in OA so some get ot worse than others.

I have these too.
I'm 68 and I noticed them starting to form about 3-4 years ago. I've had arthritis in my hands for many years, and my knuckles were enlarging, but the nodules were a new thing.
I didn't consult a dr, but just googled them, so I learned what they were, and what they were called.
At first they were a little red, and felt a little inflamed. My hands ached much of the time as well.
I started taking all the usual supplements, something I had resisted doing. I was surprised to find so much improvement. I haven't tried noni juice, but I've read good things about it.
I find that as long as my hands are not hurting, and reminding me of all the future damage that can be happening, I can ignore these things and go on with my business.

no problem. I have the same thing on my ring finger in addition to the nodes on the joints. My ortho surgeon said the nodules have too much arthritis underneath them for him to be able to do anything about them. My rheum doctor gave me cortisone injections in the joint 3 times. It helped but eventually all the pain and stiffness came back. I am unable to bend my finger closed into my palm.
Good luck to you.

@60sgirl, your info is totally corrrect. i fell down some stairs and landed on my concrete driveway years ago. I sustained crushing sprains of the thumb and fingers of my right hand. A combination of advancing age and the prior injury have resulted in the development of a Heberden node on my right index finger and a Brouchard node on my right ring finger. Doctors have told me they cannot be removed or the size (which may increase) cannot be reduced.

Honey its okay, even those it doesn't seem to be at this moment in time.
I had a co-worker at the volunteer fire dept. that had this and she took our notes at each meeting, to be typed up later.
I will never forget her, being big part of the fire dept. She wore gloves. I am dealing with the same thing at this time in my life...
I hope in the future, they might find a cure without medicines that would not hurt us.
In the mean time I will be positive and deal with it. Gods Blessings.
