She referred me to PT where I went before and their earliest appointment was September 29. Ridiculous! I called a local hospital that had a big outpatient PT department and their earliest appointment was mid September. Still longer than I want to wait. So she gave me the number for a medical practice that is a bit far from me. They can see me in the earliest. I booked 8/29 and then every Wednesday in September. Just to get on the books. I can always cancel or reschedule if I have to. My daughter made an appointment with an orthopedic foot specialist. She's had a tendon problem since a fall years ago. The pain is getting worse. The earliest appointment was mid October. We live outside of Boston, the medal mecca of the world. Availability isn't a problem. I think the problem must be population. Just too many people needing care.
FYI..................."medical mecca of the world" or not, there is a shortage of MD's, specfically primary care. I live in a "medical mecca" and canNot find a primary care MD. That's life in 2023.

@jubilant wrote:@chrystaltree Yes, too many people plus we are living longer these days. My cardiologist left along with many other doctors and to get into a new one is now a 4 to 5 month wait! They didn't agree with the new hospital management so I lost several specialists who left saying the new policies did not benefit the patients.
Speaking of cardiologists. Mine retired in April. He told me that they would assign me to one of the other cardiologists in the practice. That hasn't happened yet. I have AFib and my June appointment was with a nurse practitioner. She was excellent, I really like her. She said I would soon get a letter telling me who my cardiologist is and I could then make an appointment to meet with him or her. That has not happened yet. I had some questions regarding my meds, I emailed the nurse practitioner because I don't have a cardiologist yet. She responded within an hour so I'm happy that I have her.

Good news! The specialist's office just called me back with an appointment the first week in September. No changing doctors. Whew!

@chrystaltree Philadelphia now has five or six medical schools and many pharmaceutical corporate headquarters. We're pretty good too.
PS - In the mid 1960s I was the daytime weekend admitting clerk at Beth Israel while going to college. Did we ever meet?

My doctor closed her practice for health reasons.
I found a doctor accepting new patients. The only catch is...she only takes 2 new patients a month, so my appointment is in April 2024!
I suppose I could try to find another doc, but I prefer a female, a specific hospital group, and takes MediCare.
And I live in a city with a medical school!
It's competitive out there.

Not much of an issue for me here in NYC. I can recall only one instance ....
A couple of years ago, I did have a problem getting to see the pain management doc ... but it was Christmas season and he was on vacation. I had to wait a week or so.

I had an eye doctor appointment yesterday at 2:15. I waited an hour to see the doctor. She was super busy and says it is like that every day.
There was an older woman waiting with me. As I was checking out around 3:30 she was rescheduling b/c she was tired of waiting and was upset that people who came in after her were being seen before. However, she showed up at 1:00 for her appointment that was not scheduled until 3:15. Did she figure she was going to be seen early b/c she got there early?

Not bad! My second follow-up appt with UMassMemorial Eyecare which I scheduled early this month is Jan 11th; I could have gotten one a few weeks earlier, Dec 22nd at 7:30a.m. My first appt with this group was in April - the eyedoctor's office called and pushed for the soonest appt, which was in Northboro, not Worcester.
