I swear my Dentist is doing the same thing. He is trying to pay for his new 180 degree Xray machine with my checkbook. He also moved into a larger office. And of course had it completely remodeled.
I can't seem to bring myself to go back to him. There are several things that I am not happy about his work. And crown that was not fitted exactly and caused another tooth to break and an implant to loosen.
Also, the Dentist said I had a "bad" cavity. He filled it and the tooth broke about 1 week later. Before I left the Dentist's visit. He gave me an invoice of all the work he would need to do because he knew the filling would not last. I keep wondering how I had such a bad cavity if I had been going to the Dentist every 6 months.
Hope you find a reasonable Dentist. I am looking for one too.
@drizzellla I could be wrong, but I thought this industry was regulated. There are "reasonable and customary" charges acording to the area you live in. Anyway, they are out of control.
I think when the Dentist is dealing with Insurance Companies they are dealing with "reasonable and customary". I am a strictly cash customer. And my Dentist was always charging a high rate. When I had dental insurance, I still had to pay in addition to what the insurance company charged.

DH and I both see a family dentist in our town....he is very honest and we trust him...I would be so irked @homedecor1 ....keep looking your will find a honest dentist!
My husband is like a hawk when it comes to charges....if it's a tad more than he thinks with our insurance coverage he discusses the charges with the office.

My husband had root canal, 1 cap & post recently. The dental office "estimated" his copay would be $964.21 after insurance.
Imagine today when he got the insurance payment info -- he paid $134.89 more than he should have.
I called the dental insurance company to discuss. Yup, the office overcharged him -- he'll get his cap Monday and for sure, will be asking for refund!

@homedecor1 sheesh...gotta be your own detective.
My husband has to have a cap next week.....he's argued/discussed with the office about the price....today he called them about the appointment and the price, and yep....he was right about how much he would owe...the office associate was not giving him the proper discount via his insurance!! Gotta watch'em!

A good dentist is hard to find, I have had over 9 thousand dollars worth of dental and perio work done over the past 2 years. I don't have dental insurance, but I wanted to keep my teeth so I had the work done. I know I'll no doubt have to have more work done in the future and I'm not looking forward to it. Any kind of restorative work is very expensive.
