Hi Everyone,

We've had two rather hot days here, so will welcome temps back in the 70s tomorrow. Nothing on the baby today but diapers. I do hope I can convince DH to purchase a portable A/C unit, as it gets in the 90s and 100s here during the summer. If I can't get him interested, as he wasn't interested last year while I had day after day of unrelenting bad migraine due to heat, I'll go out and buy one myself. (I miss being near the ocean!)

Returned for my follow-up visit to my new ankle-foot docter today. Frankly, I didn't know what to expect, as my first visit didn't go all that well. I had a CAT scan on Saturday, so when I arrived at the office today, I was placed in Exam 1, which is about 12 feet from where films, MRIs and CAT scans are viewed. The medical assistant said that the doctor and his assistant (a podiatrist), would view the scan then the doctor would be in to see me. She left the exam door open.

Shortly thereafter, I heard (in increasing decibles), "...dropped, DROPPED, DROPPED!!!" Then, "..Terrible!" (from the female podiatrist). If I could have laughed I would : ) (The increase in decibles as he was advancing the CAT scan and seeing the dropped met head literally coming at him with each slice of the scan going lower and lower and lower.)

Even after reading the chart notes from my ankle-foot doc in La Jolla, it was required to doubt and question me up one side and down the other. Yes, I know it's good clinical practice to cover all bases, but the manner in which this was done was, well, just not quite right.

In any case, I DO have a dropped met head of the 3rd metatarsal. We will do a surgery when I'm back to normal after the total knee, at which point he will remove the part of the bone that is causing the pain and also fuse two bones with 2 screws to lower the very high arch created by a small bone (that should be a large bone) that interfaces with my large toe, which should also make the rest of my foot happy.

So, enough of my left foot.

We're going to look at a house tomorrow. It's a bargain, as the previous owners abandoned it, so it's owned by the bank. Looking at the photos, it basically seems OK except for the dreadful original 40s kitchen, which we would tear out and probably replace with IKEA units, which wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Haven't seen the bathrooms yet. Keeping my fingers crossed. We'd be about 8 minutes from DD, so that's a huge plus and the crime in the area is next to the zero rating.

I sincerely hope that you're enjoying some wonderful springtime weather and that an increase in temperature can ease some of your pain. As always, I pray that you are blessed with more and better quality healing sleep.

Love and Hugs to all.

God Bless - Rebecca

Sorry to be gone for so long but I had the surgery on the other leg a week ago. My leg was so swelled up, that I could hardly walk.I had this horrible stocking on it to keep the swelling down. Anyhow I was able to take it off this morning and take a shower. I think tat was the best shower I ever took. She will do some more to that leg but not as extensive.

When I saw my new doctor and she said, "we'll find out what's wrong with your legs and get you walking again." It gave me so much relief. My whole outlook brightened. I think I was more depressed about all the pain than I knew. I feel as if a cloud has been lifted. I go in for an MRI soon. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Rebecca, I'm so sorry to hear about your foot. Having one pain is quite enough but your knee too. It's so hard to deal with all this.

I hope you like the house you're gong to see. House hunting can be so frustrating. Good luck.

I know what you mean about the heat in Portland. I was up there watching my Grandson a few years ago and it was 105 degrees, for 5 days. He was 3 at the time. We sat in his little swimming pool for hours. It was so hot. I never knew Portland got so hot. You do need an air conditioner.

It's funny, I still see DGS at that age. What a darling little boy he was. My heart still aches.

We had a nice bit of rain last night. We'll take all we can get in this drought plagued place. We've had half the rain we normally do.

I baked an apple pie today. I think Paul will have it finished by tonight. I even tasted a little bit. And I thought I didn't like apple pie.

Glass,

So glad to hear you got some rain. I wonder if it was from the storm that really dumped on us yesterday. Are you on water rationing yet? I hope that somehow your county can get buy and that you can enjoy your beautiful garden this summer.

My DH would appreciate your apple pie. I really like cherry or apricot or peach pie best. Does Paul eat his with ice cream? My DH demands vanilla ice cream with his apple pie.

BTW, how are your wedding plans shapping up? Perhaps you slipped away and got married. Let us know.

This week is "get ready for knee surgery week." I purchased two pair of cheap knit slacks and will cut one leg short in each pair. Then we have some assembling to do of various props and things and I have to clean and label my special walker, which looks different from a regular walker in that your forearms rest on cup-like devices and your hands hold onto vertical grips. Then we have to take up all of our area rugs and I want to do a bunch of cooking to freeze, so we have easy dinners when I come home from the hospital. I tell you, I am not looking forward to the devices placed on the legs that increase and decrease pressure 24/7, as I just don't sleep with those things on.

My granddaughter has learned how to do 3 different varieties of raspberries and does this while she's eating food, too. I suppose it's funny the first time, but now I'm starting to tell her "No."

We can really tell when she like a particular food, as she lurches forward in her high chair toward the little bowl and tries to put her fist in the bowl. I've had to learn how to move in warp speed around a baby all over again at feeding time. At the end of Friday, DH asked me how I managed to feed her without getting it all over her and the high chair tray. Well, I told him I had lots of practice babysitting as a teenager and then with our daughter. I think he asked because he had to feed her lunch on Tuesday when I had a doc appointment and boy what a mess when I got home. There was black bean soup all over her face, her little sun dress, her legs, her arms and the tray looked like she had finger painted with it. {#emotions_dlg.scared} And the floor didn't fair any better. It was rather hilarious!!!

Big, great hellos to all, with big HUGS and love.

Go Bless - Rebecca

Rebecca, I wish you the best with your surgery. It doesn't sound like fun. How long will you be laid up? I wish you a speedy recovery.

That was a cute story about your grandchild. I so remember those days. I had two, 15 months apart. It was, in many ways, like having twins. When I fed them, I used a plastic table cloth under the two high chairs. After they ate, I would take the table cloth outside and hose it off. We also, only went to restaurants with cement floors.

No wedding plans yet. We're still confused about what we want. Plus I decided I REALLY needed to loose weight. I was thinking about how my family would look at the pictures later. Ouch!

As of today I've lost 8 lbs. I'm on the same diet Paul was so successful with. (He lost 130 lbs) I don't need to nearly that much weight but I had to get started.

I did find a seamstress in town who's supposed to be terrific, so when I get near the weight I want to loose, I will have her make my dress. I don't want anything elaborate but I would like something kind of Victorian. Also I found a place in Great Brittan that sells some pretty great lace. I think I want a bias cut, black silk skirt, something flowy (word?)

I'd like to have Paul play "Halleluiah" with his group just before the wedding. I don't even think I want to walk down the isle. I have no idea what's customary for a third wedding. I just want to look ravishing for Paul. I saw a priest singing it on YouTube. It was wonderful and I just love that song. Let me see if I can put a picture of my church on here. Sometimes I can put pictures up and sometimes not.

Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven't been here, I've been so busy just trying to keep up and the days are flying by. The weather is finally starting to break and yesterday my sister & brother in law came to start getting my yard cleaned up from the winter & started planting a few things that I already bought. Dave would never plant anything before Memorial Day because there's always a chance we could still get a frost, but the perennials should be ok now.

I'm not feeling too good right now & I need to go lay down, my back is hurting, plus I went to the dentist Monday and found out that I have an abscess so have to see an oral surgeon next week {#emotions_dlg.sad} Did I mention that I hate going to the dentist?! Not only is it painful but it's also expensive when you don't have insurance.

Hugs to all

lobster, I hear you about dentists. They ARE expensive. I've had dental insurance but they only paid half and I couldn't afford that either. I really need to get to one...soon.

Dorthy, I love your cartoon. It made me laugh. Thanks.

Yard work day...I need to get to bed. It wore me out.

Hi Everyone,

Today I'm asking for your kind prayers and thoughts for us as we're in the process of making an offer on a house (on 113th St). We will be the first to submit an offer, so chances are there will be offers above and beyond ours. However, it is an estate sale with multiple parties involved, so if we are blessed, the parties, we pray, will want to offload the property and not wait for offer upon offer upon offer.

Had my pre-op yesterday and was told I'll be in the hospital 3 days, 2 nights - sounds like a weekend cruise! I check on at 10:00 to meet the Game Ready rep to take receipt of my "ice machine" for my knee (LOVE those machines), then check in for surgery at 10:30 with actual surgery at 12:30 (instead of 1:30 -Yes!). If all goes well, then I'll be released to home some time Wednesday. The Ortho floor is in the new wing of the hospital, so it'll be nice to be in new and decent surroundings and perhaps a private room.

Lobstergal, I'm really sorry you continue to feel so poorly, but am so glad that you've help with the backyard. The house we just looked at has an absolutely gorgeous back yard!!! And huge Pacific Northwest redwoods that just tower to the sky. I LOVE those trees! I will tell you this: Every morning when I wake up and try to make my way out of bed and my back hurts so bad, I tell myself to remember "D" and your "spirit" actually helps get me out of bed. Please know you are ever in my prayers. AND, I want to wish you the happiest of Mother's Day. And know that I'm thinking of Sarah this Mother's Day as well.

Glass, Oh, gosh, don't overdo it in your garden! Please do take care. I'm glad to hear you're having success on your new food plan (that sounds so much better than "diet") and wish you continued success. And the best to you on this Mother's Day as well. I know this one will have special meaning this year and hope you can ease through it with Paul by your side.

DorothyToo, Thank you ever so much for the cartoons! I especially loved the one about the hip replacement. I'm going to look for that online and send it to some doc friends of mine who do hips. How are you these days? Hope the spring weather is being kind to you and that the summer is gentle this year. Happy Mother's Day!

BJ, Loves, SUZYQ, naes and all of our friends...A very Happy Mothers Day and God's healing Blessings to you all. You're the best.

((((((Hugs))))))

Rebecca
