Re: Anyone used an electrical device for removing plaque?

[ Edited ]

Plaque prevention is the best thing to do rather than having to remove it. I use a sonic toothbrush, floss and give myself at-home gel fluoride treatments on a regular basis as well as using a fluoride rinse. Once a year I go into the dentist and have them paint my teeth with fluoride varnish and I'm good to go for a year. I have not had any plague or tartar issues in over 15 years, maybe longer.

ETA- I've been getting fluoride varnish treatments all of my life. I have never had a cavity...ever.

Fluoride kills the bacteria which cause plaque. It also plugs the holes in tooth enamel to make teeth harder and resistant to damage from bacteria or food.

@SilleeMee

I have never heard of home fluoride gel treatments. Do you use a particular brand?  There are several on Amazon.

I also never heard of fluoride varnish treatments.  I don't have a problem with cavities but I'll ask the dentist about them at my next visit.

@ Montana

I buy Colgate Kam Gel from amazon. That contains stannous fluoride which is more effective than sodium fluoride. It's very runny so I just squirt some directly into my mouth and then brush it on all of my teeth, then swish it around for a minute or so and spit the excess....do not rinse. Use it before bedtime.

At the dentist I get yearly fluoride treatments. What they put on my teeth is called fluoride varnish. It's a concentrated form of fluoride and most dentists say it should be done twice a year but since I use that Kam Gel I don't. I go once a year. Woman Happy

Mouthwash is the last step in my dental routine. Is it okay to use the gel after mouthwash? Or does it replace mouthwash?

I use the gel as my final step and that also dupes as my fluoride rinse. I use the gel every other night so the other nights I use a fluoride rinse instead. The rinse has a lower concentration of fluoride than does the gel. @ Montana

FYI- Fluoride is a compound which can attach to many things besides your teeth, for example, porcelain and plumbing. So be sure to have the water running before and while you spit the gel out so that it doesn't cause any issues there.

Thanks for the information - especially about possible plumbing problems.

If you want clinical insight into oil pulling you will need to talk to a Holistic dentist.  A conventional dentist will not understand.  I have both as my conventional dentist still believes amalgam fillings and sodium fluoride are safe!!!

Despite my dentist's views, I have been oil pulling with organic coconut oil for years. I think it has helped keep my gums in shape.   I'm absolutely sure it hasn't hurt anything.

It's funny, after a cleaning appointment, the dentist always says to keep doing what I am doing for home care since it is working so well.

No I don't. I do have an electric toothbrush which does work so much better then a regular toothbrush.

I also have a dental scaling tool I use to clean my own teeth.

I use those GUM Proxabrush or Interdental brushes between my teeth every time I eat something.

I just had my teeth cleaned yesterday. I have not had it done in over 5 years. LOL!!! No cavities. The Hygenist & Dentist both said I keep my teeth really clean. I was in & out of there in 30 mins.

If you have a problem with plaque buildup you could try swishing forcefully for 10-15 mins several times per day with Sovereign Silver to remove plaque from the teeth. I have started doing this at least twice a day.

I have even read it will help with tooth decay or root canal. While I don't know if I believe that or not I do think it helps with the plaque.

@Nightowlz

Which Sovereign Silver product do you use? Amazon has several brands.

Re: Anyone used an electrical device for removing plaque?

A dentist once asked me:  "If you could only do one thing, either floss or brush and not both, which one would be most beneficial?"  The answer is floss. I'll never forget that.

He also said something else I'll never forget either: "Just floss the teeth you want to keep."  LOL!Woman LOL
