Anyone taking Basaglar insulin?

Has anyone tried taking the new long acting insulin Basaglar?

I am a type 2 diabetic (my hubby is too) and our insurance decided not to cover Lantus anymore (which worked well for us)--we were switched to Basaglar. We were told this new insulin is similiar to Lantus (and made by the same company).

We find that Basaglar isn't working well for us----can't get our sugars under 200--my hubby's was over 400 this morning and we are waiting for a call back from his endocrinologist. My doctor has increased my dosage a LOT to try to keep my sugars down, but it isn't working as well as Lantus.

Is anyone taking this new insulin finding that it works or doesn't work well for them??

Insurance companies really need to myob when it comes to changing peoples medications because there is a cheaper alternative available.

This isn't the first time I've heard of this.

@Gracies Mom that makes me so mad. Insurance overruling Drs. about such a serious thing. I'm a newly diagnosed Type 2. I use Lantus,Medicare pays for some and Blue Cross Blue Shield supplement some. We also have to pay a good amount out of pocket for it. But it's manageable.  What is going on with medical care in our country. I hope you and you husband get things under control.

Your doctor should be able to write a letter to the insurance company to request the Lantus as the substitute doesn't work well.

Good luck.  I know it's frustrating.
