Low Purine diet, and REAL cherry juice. No shrimp for my husband either!

@Silver Fox1 I get a form of gouty arthritis. A fluid swelling in the bursi sac in my shoulders for some reason. Even the doctors are stumped at it! I went to a shoulder specialist as well, who is well known and he said that he had never seen anything like the swelling in my shoulders! Most of the time the shoulder will hurt, but not swell up. He thought I must have fallen or something which was not the case.
My shoulders swell up and retain fluid. Very painful. I came up with this formula which has helped it to go away that I take every day: I would start with twice a day until the pain goes down and then go to taking once a day.
Two caps of Turmeric Root extact'
Two caps of Celery Seed extract'
Two caps of Tart Chery Root extract.
since being on this protocal, my shoulders are no longer swollen and I feel almost normal.

You said he was diagnosed by a doctor - what did the doctor suggest? Why don't you want to do as the doctor suggested? Did they have him get a uric acid level drawn?

She asked for ways to AVOID an attack in the future and for NATURAL remedies.......not for judgment. Traditional western medicine isn't always the only answer.

Prescription drug Allopurinol - my husband has taken it for years - no more gout. For an acute attack though you need an anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID.)

Cut down on his meat intake.

Gout is usually a result of too much uric acid in the body. Would think his doctor would have told him some ways to deal with this.
Some people's bodies produce more uric acid than others and they have to monitor foods that are known to result in more uric acid in the system.
I don't get into speculating on what a particular person should consume that has a specific medical diagnosis. That to me is something a patient should get from his doctor, maybe a referral to a Nutritionist or a Dietician.

@151949 wrote:Many posters here will tell you their home remedies but the fact is that you NEED to get on a medication to get rid of the uric acid because not only does it damage your joints , but it also damages your kidneys. And once kidneys are ruined it will be too late to take the medicine. You will be on dialysis. Please, go to the doctor and have a uric acid level done and if it is high do not depend on diets and home remedies. I take Allopurinol for my gout and it is totally effective and so cheap they don't even turn it in to the insurance ,I pay for it myself , all $2 a month.
ITA .... and am constantly surprised by the number of posters who have conditions requiring medical attention, but they look for silly "remedies". To me, that's just messing with your health.

It never ceases to amaze me the chances people here take with their health. I am 100% sure they don't have any idea what all high uric acid can do to someone.

It never ceases to amaze me how people don't read the original post. The OP said her son has BEEN TO THE DOCTOR. She is looking for alternative and natural ways to prevent gout in the future. Tart Cherry Juice, among other natural things, has been proven to reduce levels of uric acid.
No one is suggesting that high uric acid in one's system is desirable. The leaps you make here are mind boggling.
