Anyone ever have "pool toes" ?

My daughter lives in Florida and told me that my Granddaughter has them.

I had never heard of it!

They have a large Community Pool in their developement and she has been swimming a few hours each day, the last couple days.

She doesn't have any open sores or anything, just some irrritation.

They are taking a break from the pool for a few days to let them heal.

It's not uncommon. Pool shoes help. It's from repeated foot contact on the somewhat rough texture of the pool.

Re: Anyone ever have "pool toes" ?

I've lived in Florida my entire life. When I was a kid I had two neighbors who had pools.

We lived in the pools. One neighbor had a particularly rough textured pool surround. We would play in the pool so much the pads of my toes AND fingers would bleed.   ( Getting in and out of the pool and hanging on the side by our finger tips in the deep end) I can still imagine tge pain, yet joy lol

Yeah we didn't have pool shoes in the 70s.

If you are worried why not get your kids pool shoes ( the kind they can wear in the water) or stop worrying about it!

@Nataliesgramma @All the time. Florida resident. There are various finishes used to redo the surfaces of pools and some are abrasive and as you walk on the bottom these surfaces lightly scratch up your toe bottoms and cause irritation. For me it depends on which pool. Only some have surfaces that do it to me. There are shoes you can wear in the pool.

@Nataliesgramma Can she wear thick socks in the pool? That sounds painful

I think her Mom is getting her the pool shoes since they go to the beach too and the sand is hot...

Re: Anyone ever have "pool toes" ?

@deb5555 @I tried doing this and the socks kept getting a bagged out area filled with water in the toe part. Then the socks would just slip off. This was at a time when I couldn't find any pool shoes.
