@Trinity11  hope you're feeling better! Re the mounjaro, that is very sobering. We look at these  drugs like the magic bullet we've been dreaming of. But they have some powerful and dangerous adverse effects.

Today I weighed myself as I do every day on the noom program. I have lost 2 lbs in four days. Eating within my wt loss calorie range, choosing healthier foods instead of junk. This first achievement tells me I'm perfectly capable of changing my eating habits without drugs. That's me- everyone has to weigh the risk-benefit ratio with themselves and their doctor.

Re: Anyone else on a weight loss plan

For @JeanLouiseFinch  or anyone who'd like to respond. I bought some nut granola with 9g carbohydrates per serving. I know you already told me net carbs result from the fiber grams being subtracted. The label says:

9 total carbs - 3 dietary fiber - 4 sugar alcohol = 2 grams net carbs

So when I write down my carbs, is it only 2? If I don't see sugar alcohol listed on a label, is it always zero, or don't all labels mention it?  Finally, all the ingredients were easily understood except erythritol. Would you consider that safe? I'm still going to eat this product, but that one ingredient concerned me a bit.

Thanks to anyone who can help me understand.

I would have no problem eating a food with erythritol an artificial sweetener. In the small amt present in this cereal it's fine. FDA deems it " generally safe"

Yes, @AuntG, your calculation is correct.

Regarding erythritol, do not worry.  Yes, there were a couple of studies last year that questioned it's safety and cardiovascular risk, but do we know how those studies were conducted - number of participants, their health and cardiovascular history, who paid for the studies, what were the controls, etc.? The results of those two studies stand in sharp contrast to decades of scientific research and the FDA saying it's safe. I use it regularly.

To help you keep track, look up the app Carb Manager.  It is a very useful tool for looking up foods, adding them to your daily log, and getting a tally of your daily macros (carbs, net carbs, protein, fat) and calories.

Ive been on NOOM for over two years.  I did tKe the glp 1 injections in 2023 and I lost 75 pounds.  My doctor wouldn't write the prescription unless I promised to join a program to help me learn to eat healthy.  I chose NOOM.  So happy I did!  I love the tracking function.  I like the lessons which are psychology based.  NOOM kept me focused and on track and I learned a lot.  I stopped the meds in November 2023 and have maintained my weight.  But I'm still doing NOOM.  It keeps me on track.

I absolutely cannot afford the injections. Rats.

Sometimes insurance covers the cost, or a good part of it anyway.

Basic Medicare doesnt cover it, nor does my secondary insurance. This year, Medicare is negotiating prices for two of the branded wt loss meds. So it looks like those will be covered under part D. Good news for many people. I don't have part D, I have ɓasic MCare and military health insurance under my husband. What I need is a gofundme 😄

Hi @smoochy . I was just in the hospital for the past few days for intravenous antibiotics and my roomie told me she was taking Munjaro. Her reason for hospitalization was a pancreatic cyst. She said she had terrible pain from it. I could not help but hear her doctor tell her it was the Munjaro. Surprisingly, she said she wanted to continue it. She lost 250 pounds over 3 years. So it works but at what cost?

I'm with you,  @Trinity11!  Our DD took it for a few months, looks great, but I'm glad she stopped.  Our DDIL is a nurse and told us of a 20-something yr. old patient who had a bowel obstruction caused by one of these GLP-1 medications.  There seems to be many out there suffering significant side effects.

Both my children are taking Zepound and Munjaro. I am very worried. But they were doing low carb with no results. My daughter says you stop thinking about food. But it changes your metabolism and she eats more than she used to. Both have have had genetic testing and they inherited the gene for obesity from me. It isn't my decision to make for them but keto to me is a whole lot less dangerous than these drugs @JeanLouiseFinch .
