It goes straight to my stomach and I get diahrea (?sp) every time I am nervouse about anything. I especially get it anytime I go to the doctor. I tell myself I'm being silly and try everything to relax but it dosen't help. eeeek! I don't know what to do about it. I wish I did.

@GingerHead  Those of us who have this nervousness, I don't think we can control it.  Recently when I was having my vitals taken at the hospital, my BP was high -- as usual.  And the tech asked me if I was nervous.  I didn't say this to her, but I thought of course I'm nervous.  I'm going through tests, and they may find something wrong with me.  There's a lot to be worried about.

Re: Anyone Else with WhiteCoatSyndrome?

I get so nervous like 2 days before I go. It's so dumb because I don't have any issues to report except my PSA. It's alwaya a nothing appointment. I thought my blood pressure was just high in the office by I did have very high BP and it's normal  now at visits.

Re: Anyone Else with WhiteCoatSyndrome?

I never used to be anxious about getting my BP taken---but after months and months of scans and tests and pokes and prods , and chemo treatments and radiation, and surgeries ---for breast cancer in 2012---thats when it started for me. I tell the PA's about it before they strap on the cuff but I just get the look---my cardiologist knows about it. Never used to have high blood readings at all--just the opposite----this may have been suggested already,  but how about getting your own cuff for at home. the arm style is best I hear. then you could take your BP a coulpe times a day and it will record to take to your doc.

Re: Anyone Else with WhiteCoatSyndrome?

[ Edited ]

When I was big and heavy, I hated getting weighed. I even skipped my annual gyne visits for years because of it (yes, I was an idiot).  No one ever shamed me, I was just very embarrassed and ashamed of myself. Now that all the excess pounds are in the rear view mirror, I am much more at ease, but I still take my shoes off before I get in the scale. 🤷‍♀️

I have been using a highly rated BP monitor that I got from Amazon. It's been reading high, which I knew couldn't be right.  I recently had a checkup with my cardiologist.  I was a little apprehensive going in, wondering about my BP, but it was 126/70.  It has normalized with the significant weight loss.  It turns out that my home cuff is too short and that's why it's been giving inaccurate readings.   I need to get a longer replacement.  He also had me get sn in office EKG which he said was beautiful, and all my blood work is great too.  I have been on the lowest dose of Losartan, but the Dr. agreed that I could wean myself off of that and see how I do unmedicated.  I'm sure I'll be fine but he also agrees with me that I can continue with a daily cup of hibiscus tea.  He's also agreed that I don't really need to see him anymore, that I can just have my checkups with my NP.

@CherryHugs I don't know what your situation is, but losing a lot of excess weight has given me more confidence and comfort.

I was young at the time the nurse suggested this and came from a private family.  I didn't discuss it with anyone and  didn't go any further  with it. As an older person, I do go to the doctor more often and my primary doctor knows how I am and that has helped.

Re: Anyone Else with WhiteCoatSyndrome?

Happens to me every time.   I had a doctor years ago I loved.  He knew I was nervous, but always took my BP at the end of the visit, when I was less nervous.  He was so kind and compassionate.   His calming manner made me feel more at ease at the end of the appointment.

I miss him so much.   He passed away.

These young medical assistants rush you and make you feel sometimes that you're taking up their time.   Makes me feel so nervous.

They usually have to take mine a few times to get the best reading.

Re: Anyone Else with WhiteCoatSyndrome?

count me in !  It happens every time even  if I know it's just a physical , no pain to anticipate it's just being there I guess.   I had a surgery last week and my BP was sky high  the antheseologist was concerned about going ahead even ,  but my dr said it was fine I was just very anxious which of course I was !!!   Hate being in hospital and the recovery ahead.   Now at home my BP s totally normal , which I wish could be in the doctors office.   My cardiologist  has had me record my daily readings and show him at my next appointment and so he isn't worried .  I've brought in my BP cuff so he could make sure it's calibrated correctly as well and it is.   He realizes it's white coat syndrome.  I told him maybe you should wear a blue coat lol....  he smiled.

Re: Anyone Else with WhiteCoatSyndrome?

I'm a retired nurse and never had WCS UNTIL my husband found me unconscious.  I had to go to multiple specialists to get a diagnosis because the cause was a mystery.  The hospitalist said it was a heart attack but my angiogram was negative and everything returned to normal spontaneously.  I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop & that started my WCS & hypertension.  When I am home, my BP is high norm but was controlled by one mild medication.  Now, I'm a bit older and the fear is worse....last reading was over 200/120 in the office. I now find myself on three blood pressure medications and at home, my BP is even too low sometimes but I don't dare stop.

I increased my exercise, use respirate for 1/2 hour, take beets, Co Q 10 & a no added salt diet & I read labels for salt content.  It's good now but will see in December when I visit the doctor. Sigh

Re: Anyone Else with WhiteCoatSyndrome?

Count me in.  I never ever went to doctors, other than when pregnant years ago,  so afraid.  Of what I can't say.  Got sick 5 years ago and was in the hospital for a week. Now when I go to the Dr. I'm afraid he'll put me in the hospital.  There would be no reason for that but just my nutty thoughts.

Like others said, I start worrying about a Dr. appointment for a week ahead. Can't sleep the night before.  It's miserable. My granddaughter just graduated from nursing school (with honors). Maybe she'll be some help.

@CherryHugs  Thanks for this thread.  It helps to read I'm not alone with this.
