Anyone have good experience with CT Orthopedics (knee specialty) and Neurosurgeons in Connecticut?  If so recommendations appreciated

Hi @theresa I'm in CT and have gone to Dr. Mark Scanlan who I loved. Saw him for a wrist/tendonitus issue. Not sure of his surgery skills, but I really liked him, and he was recommended by lots of locals here on Facebook, as well as who my PCP recommended. He seemed to have a good approach to fixing things, not hopping to surgery, however, if you're already at the point of looking for a surgeon, he stiill may be a good option. He has an office in Guilford, Hamden too I think, and not sure where, if anywhere, else.

My mom used to see Dr. Christopher Lynch in Branford...she only ever got cortezone shots from him, she passed at 91 and just never wanted surgery. I don't know a lot about him or his reputation as a surgeon. He was fine, but, I thought, between the two, my impression was Dr. Scanlan was more "personal", attentive.

@theresa  What part of Connecticut are you from? I know of surgeons in my area (Northeast section).

Re: Any recommendations for CT

My answer would be to question where in CT you live.

I would investigate hospital ratings, then consider a surgeon who practices there.

In the southern part of CT, for me at least, it would be Yale New Haven.

Northern part, Hartford Hospital or St.Francis.  Our hospital choice reflected what we would likely be most concerned with, and then chose docs affiliated with that hospital.

Not easy, I know, but worth the time an effort.

I saw him for wrists, but I think he does knees too. But you can research him. Maybe he's known more for hands/wrists than knees, I don't know...and I realized you'd want one who specializes in knees.

Lynch does knees for sure, and that may be his specialty.

There were others people gave me recommendations for when my mom was considering knee surgery at one point...if I find that info, and still have it anywhere I'll post it.

Good luck in your search!

@theresa   I have had 3 joint replacements:  2 hips and 1 knee.

Before my first hip replacement (2008) I found the most comprehensive and informative website regarding joint replacements ON THIS FORUM.

I got excellent info regarding orthopedic surgeons in my area and every other thing I needed to research regarding the procedures.

The forums regarding knee replacements are very well populated with others going through every phase of the procedure: prior to and afterward.

By coincidence, I lived in the Hartford, CT area (Simsbury) for 25 yrs prior to relocating to Arizona.  My joint replacements were done here.

Good Luck!

I also recommend Jeff Burns, he works out of Hartford Hospital.  Husband had a horrible motorcycle accident and Mike Miranda did the reconstruction of his leg.  (Miranda is their trauma surgeon)  Burns did an excellent job removing and replacing the knee about six years later.  He came up to the waiting room and told me it took him three hours to remove the knee cap because it had been so grown over from the rods that were put in.  Bless him, he had the patience and did a great job.  Burns also did his hip.  Great guy, young side so won't retire on you.

Good luck!
