my mom had lyme disease and it was misdiagnosed several times before they finally got it. at first they said she had rheumatoid arthritis. she had large red rash, fevers, headaches, body aches, lethargy for probably close to 4 months. she pretty much stayed in bed that entire summer and could not leave the house.
it took her a while to get back to her old self. this was probably 20 years ago or so and she was about 60 then. once she was diagnosed properly, she gradually got better.
we do have a lot of deer in our area.

@cookie16 I think you hit the nail on the head as far as not much being known about this disease. I thankfully have not experienced it but my brother had a tough case of it a couple years back. He had the worst migraine in his life and did have the bulls eye rash from it. Did the same Doxycycline regimen and it took quite some time before he felt well again.
I am sorry for what your husband has gone through and still is going through.
Best of luck to you both.

@MW in Iowa :My brother got Lyme Disease many years ago. The Doctor was slow to diagnose the disease. So my brother ended up having intervenious i.v. with antibiotics for a month. He stayed at our house for a week and walked around with his i.v. on a pole.
And since it was many years ago, on occasion I ask about him having any ill affects. He always says no that he is doing OK. Now his has other maladies from old age.
My rescue dog also had it. He wasn't treated until we got him. The Vet put him on antibiotics. He didn't react well and had convulsions. So the Vet said just stop the antibiotics. He always tested positive. But he had so many other issues, I am not sure how it affected him. And sadly he couldn't tell us.

I had rocky mtn spotted tick fever-not lyme disease, but from a tick none the less. I started feeling bad, running a low grade temp.-my dr couldn't find what was wrong with me. He didn't test me for any tick borne illnesses though. This went on for over 6 months. By the time I found someone who was determined to figure out what was wrong with me, I had told my dh I thought I was going to die, I felt so bad. Just exhausted all the time, achy joints and muscles, the least little thing and I'd have to sit down and rest. It was awful.
Doxycyline is what they gave me to get over it.
