Happy to hear you are going to an Ortho doctor, and sorry you can't get in sooner. I am fortunate that I had 2 Ortho Doctors that played in my Adult Hockey League. 1 is a Spinal Specialist, who has done back surgery on me(my 2nd one), and the other Ortho Specializes in Shoulder/Hip/Knee Repair and Replacement. Both of them see me, and/or my wife, within a couple days, or less.
If you are able to take Naproxen(Aleve type) meds might do that until your appointment. I personally cannot take any type of Anti-inflammatory, and will not take any type of Opioid meds. I am pretty much stuck with Tylenol for pain relief, and it does little to nothing for anything for me, except maybe a headache?
Best to you,
hn

Both of my Ortho friend doctors prefer taking their own MRI. All MRI machines are not the same. My Spinal Doc friend showed me 1 that was taken on a weaker magnetic MRI machine, and 1 he took. I was really surprised at the lack of detail of the weaker machine. Could barely see the spinal disc rupture.
Her Ortho Doc might prefer it done at his office, or a particular place. Wanted to throw this in to let others know that all machines are not equal, not you specifically.

highm jan---my best friend is going thru that same issue. She is a dental hygienist, so it is work related for her, but she wakes up almost crying in the middle of the night from what you describe. She thinks its a pinched nerve in her neck and is now taking a B-12 supplement that has been very successful. She heard from a patient of hers, that he had been suffering thru this for 20 years and a top notch neurologist in AZ told him to take it. Within 3 days he was feeling much better. Now there are different types of B-12 and the dosage is high so I wouldn't go and try it on my own. BFF won't go to chiro--is afraid of that and hasn't been to anyone professional either. But the b vitamins help mend damaged nerves. I would diffidently see your dr but maybe see what a neurologist has to say and bring up the B-12 thing.

For some reason when I was tested for B12 I have a very high level in my body...so I don't dare take it...thanks though!!
I have a lot of auto immune diseases and I saw an article in the paper Sat. about a disease called Polymyalgia Rheumatica which sort of made me think of me.... So I will ask about that. All of my symptoms...

Can't take Ibuprofen due to a mouth condition that it worsens and can take Tylenol due to Liver disease...so I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Kind of hard to get opioids these days...even when they are really needed.#%#&@ argh!! Thank you though!!

@Dominosmom wrote:try a new, larger pillow. I had great success with replacing my standard pillow with a king size pillow. Gives me much better support of my neck and shoulders. I am 70.
You might have to try several different types of pillows until you get the one that supports your neck and stops squishing that top rib that's at your colarbone.
I was sleeping with my arm under my pillow and it was crushing that rib into the nerve. Pain, numbness, and physical therapy but it wasn't until I found the right size contour pillow did it correct my issue.
I got the Martha Stewart Sleep Science pillow from Macys.

First, my sympathies to you for your pain, and your suffering. Anytime someone is suffering in a way that interferes with your quality of life seek help. If your doctor doesn't take you seriously, tell him this is affecting your sleep, and your life. Look him in the eye, and mean it. You likely need a referral to a specialist.
My best to you, and please let us know how you are doing. Sending positive thoughts your way.
