I do deep breathing exercise.  I was so upset last night and my heart was racing.  I took deep breaths and let it out slowly.  Did this a few times and could feel the calminess come over me.

I am 85 and this is how I control anxiety.

I live alone so only have me to help me. Don't take meds. Just deefp breathing and bible scripture about being anxious.

Someone on here recommended Body Align well bracelet. Well I got one and I didn't know if it was my wishful thinking or not-I got it for pain but I do think it calms and heightens mood and helps with tiredness and energy. It was about $29 online.

@gertrudecloset,

Yeah, it could be power of suggestion but it does feel like something more.

I told my nurse daughter about how it works-I am not good at repeating the scientific info but you can read about it online. She has heard of the principles behind it and thought it made sense.

I've never heard of them before reading about someones post here.

This is what the outside package looks like.

Mine is black. I would have gotten the white if I'd seen it.

I'm glad I got it but yes, still not sure if its my wishful thinking that it works or it really does.

The poster who recommended it said it really helped her and they have patches too that work on the same principle.

These really do help with pain even more than salon pas which I love. Hope that helps.

@nana59 , I hesitate to offer anything here because you really should see a doctor or specialist.  I sympathize with you because I also suffer from anxiety, more specifically social anxiety.

In addition to a prescribed medicine, it was also suggested that I take Chamomile Oil and Omega3 Mood Fish Oil.  I have done this daily for 3 years and it has helped me tremendously.  I wish you well.

@Elodie2,

I never heard of chamomile oil!

You know I forgot to add that my mother always had some chaomile tea before bed to help her relax and get ready to sleep.

I agree about seeing a doctor you like @nana59,

but it is nice to know about others experiences too!

@nana59   I also suffer from Anxiety. I know the sources for my anxiety and have taken prescription medications for it before. However, this really helps me! I started out taking it everyday but now, I only take it, as needed, when my anxiety becomes intense. I get mine from Suzanne Somers' website. I know many dislike her but throughout the years I've found lots of her recommendations very helpful. This is definitely one of them for me! I'm sure you can get it elsewhere. It really does work to bring down the stress level, calm the physical symptoms and take the edge off and give back ths feeling of well-being so you can relax and function without any side effects like being sleepy or tired.

@on the bay ,  I should have said chamomile oil extract.  It comes in capsule form.  Again, this has helped me but heaven knows every one is different.

I am going to go off in a whole other direction due to personal experience.

I won't go into a lot of detail but I was experiencing rapid heart rate, anxiety not able to cope with things i normally could, sleep issues and the list goes on.

I went to 4 diff. specialist and finally upon my own research I came across iron defeciency and how common it was even if you do eat a lot of animal products and such. I had my iron panel ran and sure enough I was a little low on iron and for sure very low on ferritin (iron storage), my Dr. had me start supplementing with heme iron and within 2 weeks the anxiety and all the systems are gone. I continued until my ferritin was at a good level and now I only take iron a couple days a week.

I just thought I would mention this, obviously not everyone with anxiety is low on iron, this is NOT what I am saying, I just wanted to mention it in case you can't really nail down a reason for your anxiety.  Note: Do not supplement with iron w/out blood work, most supplements are safe however, iron can build in  your body you really never want to take extra iron unless your body needs it, I get tested every 3 months to ensure my levels are good and not too high.

Good luck!!!

St John's Wort and Valerian Root are often taken for anxiety, but it's best to ask your doctor because they might lower the efficiency of some prescription medications.

Don't know much about Valerian Root, but German doctors prescribe St John's Wort.  It takes about 1-2 months to take effect.  I never used it, but those who do say it works with no side effects.  It's been used for many years, so it's proven its safety to me.

I'm doing Ashahgwanda (sp) and St. John's Wort with pretty good results just now.

Both Iron and Vitamin D Deficiency can cause (and exacerbate) anxiety and depression. Great Post!
