Has anyone devoped this, or had in get a lot worse, when they have gotten older?

I have many nights, like this one, when I simply cannot sleep thru the night. I wake up and the "what ifs" start going thru my mind. They are what if's that I can do nothing about. Also the things that have already happened, a family friend died last night and when I woke up, his family was on my mind and I couldn't go back to sleep.

I know this is anxiety, I just don't know how to fix it. I am going to make appointment with a dr. This is no way to live and getting worse.

Just wondering if any of you have dealt with this, or if you have ideas anything that could help.

TIA

I have quite a few friends who suffer from anxiety and they treat it in many different ways. Some take prescription medication, one uses medical marijuana, which is legal in her state, and one uses a combination of medication and talk therapy with a psychologist.

@panda1234, YES, a merry go round of temporary successes, then right back to my 3am INTERNAL ALARM CLOCK!

@violann  My daughter is the same way. It is hard but very important not to nap. A doctor at Penn Medicine told us it is very hard to reset the circadian rhythm clock. She said it takes several months to do so. I wish you the best.

I've had gastro issues for the last 4 months.  Have had many tests done as requested by my regular doctor and a gastro specialist.  A few things showed up but nothing significant.  I have no appetite, nausea and have lost a lot of weight.  The gastro dr's PA asked me if it could be anxiety-related.  I'm not really sure but it's rare that I go through a day without some type of anxiety issue.  Oddly, most nights I do sleep OK.  It's during the day that it's the worst.  This has taken a lot out of me physically and mentally.  Just wish I knew what was going on and how to fix it.

My mother, her siblings and parents were a poster family for anxiety.   By the time I was a teenager, my mother was driving me crazy; always worrying about everything, thinking the worst scenario with everything, walking the floor at night crying and worrying because of an upcoming appt, or someone was sick.   Our family didn’t have any more bad things happen to us than anyone else, but mom and her family just didn’t cope well.   My grandmother, aunt, and my mom all dealt with widows anxiety, which was a very difficult and trying time, and all needed medication to cope.

I thank God every day for letting me take after my dad’s family!   We are very strong willed, determined people, we face things head on, and we don’t let things get in our way.   We don’t whine, or create drama, we just deal with what life throws us, and go on, which is the opposite of how mom’s family dealt with life events.

@Catty2,

Shortly after my baby brother was born in the early 60’s, my mom went thru 6 weeks of no appetite, just didn’t look or feel well, had severe diarrhea and stomach pains, and lost about 25 lbs.   The doctor ordered a series of tests; everything came back normal, and the doctor had to tell mom it was her nerves.   At that point mom agreed to take medication, which helped tremendously.   Once she got calmed down and started eating again, she stopped taking the medication, but in all honesty, mom would have benefitted from long term anxiety meds.

@Catty2  I have gone through periods of this myself and nothing showed up in testing. I am a very easy going person so I do know it is not anxiety. It is awful to be so sick for so long. For me, the longest has been 4 months and I lost 35 pounds. Hope you are feeling better very soon.

I had alot of anxiety and what helped me was a course that you listen to by dvd! You can order it as I did from Anxiety Busters! They had a forum there but it is not longer used. They moved it to Facebook sadly. This course was the best and really did help me so much.

That sounds pretty close to what I've been going thru except you didn't have the anxiety.  Do you remember what happened that you started to feel better?

@Catty2  No, one day I would wake up and be fine. It comes on all of the sudden too......no triggers. Very odd.
