At any point of normal development, from birth to death, if it has to do with hormonal changes:
Being a female shouldn't mean treatment is needed for simply for being a female.
If so, then the only way any female will ever get to be President will be if and only if she is post-menopausal. See how it works? Where are the "My voice is changing! What drug should I take!" threads, or the "The only thing hard about my body is my head! What meds work!" threads?

When are people going to wake up and see what they are doing to themselves by constantly running to doctors for a fistful of prescriptions. Educate yourself about alternatives and leave the synthetic drugs as a last resort.
I went through menopause without any HRT or drugs for hot flashes etc. There were rough days, months but I am glad I did it that way. I found lots of ways to cool myself, including not wearing heavy clothing in the winter and layering....mostly taking off layers.
Please be careful about what is said about antidepressants. Depression still has a negative stigma in society and it shouldn't. Anti-depressants allow so many people to live normal lives. Many, indeed, would be dead without them.

A lot of talk about side-effects but little about the benefits on here. Only the patient and his/her doctor can decide what's right for them. The side-effects do not occur with all patients....indeed, it's a small number.....and even then, another anti-depressant may resolve the issue. A patient needs to be well informed and contact their doctor if they notice side effects. But they also need to be informed about the benefits and weigh their options.

Those visiting drug company reps are quite effective aren't they!
After returning from a Doctor's visit, my gullible MIL frequently had a "new" drug or two for her to "try" too!!

I can relate to Miss Buttercup. It's like my life has been with hot flashes. They got so bad I asked my doc to prescribe Brisdell. She gave me Paxil as it is in the generic Paroxatine. I need to be on it so I can tell if it works.
