Had my first appointment with a Functional Medicine Nurse today. She prescribed Turmero Active. Anyone take it or familiar with it?

I never heard of functional medicine - so I googled it.
From Wiki ....
Functional medicine is a form of alternative medicine that encompasses a number of unproven and disproven methods and treatments.[1][2][3] Its proponents claim that it focuses on the "root causes" of diseases based on interactions between the environment and the gastrointestinal, endocrine, and immune systems to develop "individualized treatment plans"[4] It has been described as pseudoscience,[5] quackery,[6] and at its essence a rebranding of complementary and alternative medicine.[6]
In the United States, functional medicine practices have been ruled ineligible for course credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians because of concerns they may be harmful.[7][8]

@ALRATIBA I appreciate your googling that for me. Yes, FMDs and FMNs get to the root cause of disease and illness as opposed to traditional docs who simply pull out the prescription pad to treat patients' symptoms with toxic drugs without bothering to investigate the cause.
I have been familiar with FMDs and FMNs for a long time and personally know many people whose lives have been changed by them rather than the ignorance and quackery by too many traditional docs. I would not have even entertained seeing an FMN without understanding what I was getting into. Thanks.

Good for you for finding a functional Dr. They are quickly over taking the "pill for ill" doctors.
There is a ton of information about tumeric and all the health benefits online. Has been used for hundreds of years in other cultures. Inflammation is a serious problem when it gets to the point where your whole body is inflamed. But it is just a symptom, something is causing it. Root cause can be found by reducing the inflammation
Have not seen tumeric active, but if your functional Dr recommended it then it is probably in the right form. Tumeric needs a fat/lipid co-factor to be absorbed. I take liposmal tumero (just means it goes right into bloodstream instead of digestional tract).
I LOVE functional, integrative>= (doctors who practice both ways, eastern and western medicine). Big pharma is doing everything they possibly can to shut these functional doctors down. Can't make millions of dollars off healthy people, right? I don't know of any insurance company that will pay for functional doctors but paying out of pocket is worth every penny if you find a good functional doctor.
Full body medicine makes so much more sense than "my finger hurts, here is a band-aid" medicine.
The United States is the most unhealthy country in the world. SUGAR is a huge culprit. Sugar causes lots of inflammation, along with other foods.
There will always be room for different doctors, but big pharma is not happy with the ones that can make you feel better by changing diet and lifestyle.
Regular doctors will still be needed for surgery etc. They just don't play well with others ![]()

Bravo, @Deree ! Traditional medicine doesn't care about the root of the problem, the reason why. They want to treat the symptoms and then that opens up another host of problems because of the side effects. I hope you can get to the root of your problem and find a remedy for it. That is another reason people don't look into alternative. They want a pill to fix everything. It may have taken years to manifest and they want it fixed right away. It doesn't work that way in the natural realm. All the best.

@ALRATIBAThat wiki description is so wrong, and a perfect example of why big pharma is trying to discredit functional medicine. Functional doctors are more educated and understanding of how each body system interacts with other body systems than an MD. Really sad they let a paragraph like stay online and mislead so many people.

I forgot to mention that a see a functional doctor and my dog's vet is one, too.

I am pretty sure they are not covered by insurance.

Mine isn't. My Medicare picks up some of my physical, but I have always paid out of pocket. That includes my yearly Thermogram and a bone scan when I get them.

That only applies to certain conditions. Getting to the root of the problem for a Type 1 diabetic? Without insulin you die. Get chest pain and you need drugs until you get in the cath lab. Cancer? The drugs are lifesaving and no functional medicine doc is going to cure you. My good friend died using one of these doctors and precious time was lost. By the time she got conventional care, the cancer had spread and precious time was lost..
