Re: An example of an ignorant doctor...

@Shelbelle I agree that we need to be our own advocates, but I wish that you had more confidence in your physicians -- or find new ones you do respect and trust. If you feel compelled to do your own research, in lieu of going to medical school, I hope that you are relying on double blind studies published in peer reviewed recognized medical journals.

Re: An example of an ignorant doctor...

with my medical diagnoses, if I ate a keto/carnivore diet I'd be dead in a month.  Widely known to be a dangerous, extremist fad. Yes I've researched it. No thanks.

Re: An example of an ignorant doctor...

NONE of the doctors I go to are "ignorant". They are knowledgable, professional, and well-educated. ALL of them have graduated from top notch medical schools.

I would NEVER take advice from ANYONE who posts on You Tube. SMH.

What?  No carb?

Everything has carbs in it except some meats and oil.

Fruits are loaded with carbs and veggies have carbs too. Some more than others.

You clearly don't understand nutrition.

I have gone on a low carb diet three times in my life and it almost killed me the first time.  You would think I would have learned a lesson, but no.

It works for losing weight, so I tried it again and again.  It causes me to go into AFib and is dangerous for me.

I am done and glad I am no longer in AFib and do not have to take blood thinners because of it.

It's okay to cut some bad carbs, but if you go too low, you might end up dead because of it.

It's not for everyone.

Here's an article I found to back up my experience.

@ID2   Huh?  I'm sad to say you are not familiar about carbs and where they come from...

I've read other posts from others that are confused too.

ALL fruits & veggies have various levels of carbs. Based upon your post, you seem to be injesting lots of carbs.

The additional sad part is fruit are nothing bur sugar bombs nowadays. They have been hybridized over and over intentionally to be so...

The fruit of today is not the fruit of thousands of years ago...much more bitter and with much less sugar content.

When folks make smoothies with fruit & veg, they are making nothing more than super charged sugar bombs with possibly hundreds of carbs in each smoothie. Then, those that add veggies like spinach are also adding a lot of oxalates/toxins too.

Doubters?

Check your blood sugar level after having one.

AND, for all that don't know, ALL carbs turn to sugar in the body...whether it comes from spinach, oranges, bread, pasta, cereal or candy.

With 'certain' LOWER carb veggies/fruit, one's blood sugar might spike on a somewhat lesser level, but it will still spike nonetheless.

no one's mind is going to be changed, regardless of articles posted or arguments presented. We all make choices based on what we and our medical providers believe is best.

Why @Susan Louise do you and @JeanLouiseFinch continue with pushing your lifestyles here? Then when those who are sick hearing the same thing you can't understand why you're recognized for the nonsense or called out from repeating the same behavior over and over.

@smoochy  True with one exception...which is the point of my starting this thread. There are many ignorant doctors that are not helping patients. So many folks don't even realize this and just believe whatever the Dr says when they don't bother to do their own homework.

It is sad.

The tipping point for 'most' folks making a change to better their own health is when the pain of their health issue/s of what they are going through exceeds the pain of giving up their carbs/lifestyle they are used to.

Just like with any habits, changing any is hard. Nobody enjoys change. We are creatures of habit.

There are always a small % of folks that no matter what, they won't change. Those are the ones that will smoke their last cigarette on their death bed, be happy to take more insulin, having a toe or limb removed over giving up having a cupcake, etc.

Those are the folks nobody can reach...they have to want to help themselves. No advice from anyone will help or open their eyes.

I am familiar with several of these positions...

I stopped smoking the day I was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2004. I don't have 2 lungs anymore.

My biological mother had both legs amputated from diabeties...two weeks before she died when she was 49.

I know of several individuals over the years who would rather have 100 more shots of insulin a day than giving up their carbs/sugars of choice.

For me, giving up carbs totally was painful...much more painful than even giving up cigarettes.

I realized I was a carb addict.

However, I love the results of being off all meds, not having to pr*ck my fingers to check my blood sugar level several times a day or have any health issues anymore.

Another added bonus...the savings/$$$ from not having to pay co-pays on meds.

No carb from any food to me tastes better than having my health back...absolutely nothing.

OMG! 100 shots of insulin per day. Honey, you'd be dead if you took 100 shots of insulin a day.🙃 @Susan Louise

Your ignorance of diabetes is showing. Type 1 diabetics are not sitting around eating cupcakes. I have had Type 1 for 54 years and I do not eat desserts.🙄 Type 2 diabetics are often on near starvation diets and have severe insulin resistance therefore they gain weight necessitating insulin. I ran support group meetings for years and attended diabetic education classes to further my knowledge.. I saw everything and your descriptions of Type 2 diabetics here are often insulting and inaccurate.

Just know that a diet consuming only meat will eventually make you very, very sick. I knew patients hospitalized with horrible repercussions from carnivore diets. Therefore, your promoting this unhealthy way of eating is really detrimental to the health of this forum.
